The National Museum of American History (NMAH) invites you to be part of an exciting physical and programmatic transformation happening at the Museum. NMAH has an opening for an experienced and dynamic Manager of Annual Giving to help build the base of individual support for the Museum’s exhibitions, collections, and educational and outreach activities.
The Manager of Annual Giving is responsible for the management and expansion of three annual giving programs: The Smithsonian Council for American History, the Director’s Fund for Annual Giving, and the Friends of the National Numismatic Collection. The Council is a membership program for annual, unrestricted gifts of $1,000 to $25,000. Council duties include creating and implementing strategies to acquire and upgrade members; cultivating and engaging the Council’s volunteer leadership; planning donor stewardship and prospecting events; and developing a comprehensive stewardship strategy to engage Council members across the nation. The Director’s Fund for Annual Giving was recently formed to expand and build the pipeline for the Council and to introduce new donors to the Museum during the Campaign. This position will cultivate and steward annual, unrestricted gifts below $1,000, coordinate appeals with Museum programs, and strategize for its continued growth.
The Friends of the National Numismatic Collection is the Museum’s only interest based membership program. Launched in 2015, it comprises collectors, numismatists and philanthropists who share a passion for the history of money and the future of the Museum’s world renowned numismatic collection. This position will cultivate and steward gifts of $1,000+ to the National Numismatic Collection, plan annual benefit events at the museum and select coin shows, and implement strategies to acquire, renew, and upgrade members.
This front-line fundraising position reports to the Director of Individual Giving. This position provides administrative support to the individual giving team by managing online fundraising efforts, coordinating special department-wide projects, and intern supervision. The candidate must have the ability to travel, strong organizational and planning skills, and working knowledge of membership giving programs and other functional areas of development.
