Position Description: The Assistant Manager of Gallery Programs develops, oversees, and teaches programs across multiple areas within the Education Department for adult visitors and elementary, middle, and high school students with a special focus on programs for visitors with disabilities. The successful candidate must have substantial experience teaching in a museum setting; developing inquiry-based gallery experiences; writing educational materials; managing budgets; supervising teaching artists; and directing projects. Candidates should also possess a strong interest in building the Jewish Museum’s reputation as inclusive and as a leader in access programming.
Responsibilities Include:
- Organize and facilitate gallery tours and studio art workshops for visitors with disabilities including those with memory loss, low vision, and developmental differences.
- Develop partnerships with schools and community organizations and supervise freelance educators and teaching artists who implement these programs.
- Develop and facilitate gallery talks for adults, including university students, on the Museum’s exhibitions.
- Manage program budgets for areas specific to the position.
- Manage conceptualization, marketing, implementation, and evaluation of programs.
- Work collaboratively with Education Department staff and other Museum departments.
- Represent the Museum at professional conferences.
Qualifications:
- BA Art History, Education or related field, or BFA Studio Art required.
- MA Art History, Museum Education, or MFA Studio Art preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of modern and contemporary art.
- 2 to 3 years of museum teaching experience.
- Comfortable teaching studio art as related to educational programs.
- Must be creative, enthusiastic, and a team player with excellent writing skills.
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
