Qualification Requirements
Veterans of the Armed Forces that meet the general job requirements are preferred for this position.
- Dynamic leader looking for exciting opportunity to be on the ground floor of the revitalization of the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum
- Knowledge and interest in military history and St. Louis history
- Knowledge of budget management, funding sources, and grant proposal preparation and procedures.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of museum administration and/or cultural resources/non profit administration
- Knowledge of artifact preservation and conservation standards.
- Knowledge of museum and historical site interpretive activities and programs through community participation, docent groups, tour exhibits and shows, collections, and related collection records.
- Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of personnel management.
- Familiarity with research, exhibit design, and collections management.
- Experience as a project team leader
- Excellent organizational, administrative and leadership skills
- Experience with military and veteran communities
- Experience with program development
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to represent the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum to donors, military and veterans groups, and other constituencies
- Leadership experience as well as documented evidence of working well within a team.
- Ability to provide leadership to a newly created division of the Missouri Historical Society while establishing good working relationships with other departments within the MHS.
Education and Experience:
- Military Experience
- MA in History, Museum Administration, Non-Profit Management or Humanities field preferred. BA with extensive work experience in museum or non-profit administration may be substituted for advanced degree.
- Experience managing a museum or non-profit cultural organization
- Experience with military research and interpretative projects
- Experience with supervising and motivating both paid and unpaid staff
- Ability to work within approved budget
