Coordinator of Teen Programs

The Whitney Museum is hiring a Coordinator of Teen Programs. The successful candidate will be a dynamic educator with a deep knowledge of contemporary art, experience collaborating with artists, and a passion for working with NYC teens. The Coordinator will run the existing Youth Insights Programs, including Youth Insights Artists, Leaders, Introductions, and Arts Careers. The Coordinator will also work with the Teen Leaders to create teen-organized series programs and large scale events.

Responsibilities include:

– The design, management, and teaching of all aspects of the Whitney’s after school programs for high school students, including Youth Insights Artists and Leaders, Summer Arts Careers, and the YI Introductions Program for English Language Learner students
– The design and management (with our Teen Leaders) of large-scale public programs and smaller-scale, drop-in artist workshops for NYC teens
– Collaborating with Whitney artists to create and teach curriculum for programs
– Developing relationships with teachers from NYC high schools and staff at community based organizations, with the goal of doing targeted outreach to underserved or at-risk teen populations
– Inquiry-based teaching in the galleries
– The training and supervision of junior staff and interns
– Coordination and tracking of evaluation projects
– Management of budgets for current and future teen programming
– Working closely with other members of the School, Youth, and Family and Community and Access Programs teams, as well as other colleagues across the Museum
– The oversight and management of the Museum’s teen web pages and social media related to teen programming
– Writing grants and grant reports
– Meeting and communicating with foundations and donors
– Contributing to the museum community through publications and conference presentations

Requirements: B.A. (Master’s Degree or MFA preferred); background in art history, fine art, American studies and/or museum education; 3-5 years professional experience with fluency in a second language a plus. The successful candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills and will be able to work well in a fast-paced environment. Position requires travel throughout NYC and extended hours for program implementation during the week and on weekends.

Applicants should have experience working with contemporary artists, knowledge of art practice, experience working with high school students and teachers, knowledge of current educational theory, and experience with program research and evaluation.
