Position Overview:
The Somerville Museum in Somerville, Massachusetts is seeking a part- time Assistant Director to work with the Executive Director on a range of initiatives including exhibition design and installation, public programming, and collection management. Responsibilities include writing of grants to support museum
initiatives, membership management and outreach, and development and management of volunteer programs. The successful candidate must have curatorial and design experience as well as strong organizational and writing abilities. A degree in either Museum Studies, studio art, or a related Humanities
field is required. The Museum requires adherence to accepted museum policies and procedures
Hours: 15 hours per week.
Principle Duties to include:
A 2-3 day weekly administrative and public presence with occasional evening and weekend work required.
Assisting with the development, installation and programming of exhibits.
Working with the Program Team on publicity and outreach; Attending the monthly meeting of the Program Team and taking minutes.
Participating in development activities, including grant-writing, fundraising, public relations and membership expansion.
Contributing to newsletter preparation and website content.
Maintaining and processing collection objects, records, inventory, loans, photographic materials, and donor information as needed.
Coordinating and managing volunteers.
Staffing the reception desk as needed in the absence of the Director.
