Security Guard – Rose Art Museum
Description:
The Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University has several openings for security guards. Reporting to the Visitor Services Manager, the security guard will monitor and assist with security of museum’s collection and special exhibitions, and provide a positive visitor experience. Provide friendly, quality information and orientation to students and other visitors during hours of operation and special events.
Each position is 30 hours/week.

Provide friendly, quality information and orientation to students and other visitors during hours of operation and special events.

Qualifications:
Essential Functions Provide excellent customer service and maintain a courteous, friendly and informative attitude while looking after the welfare of the museum galleries. Follow security routines in opening and closing the building to include turning the lights on and off, as well as assist in exhibition activation and deactivation. Complete a daily written activity log. Actively participate in training programs to improve knowledge of the museum, security and customer service skills. Assist in conducting crowd control procedures by monitoring and protecting museum visitors, galleries, buildings, equipment, facilities, and grounds. Maintain order in assigned areas by addressing inappropriate behavior in a confident, calm, and friendly manner. Serve as initial responder in the event of a visitor or other related emergency, contacting a supervisor when appropriate. Report to supervisor any missing or damaged objects or unusual conditions. Report any irregularities as they pertain to building operations, safety or fire hazards during patrol of premises.
Marginal/Incidental functions Other related functions as assigned.

Required qualificationsHigh school graduation or GED. Some guard or security experience in a cultural institution. Excellent verbal communication skills. Ability to organize and command authority to achieve necessary response in emergency situations. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Must be able to walk and stand for several hours at a time. Available to work weekends and evenings, with occasional overtime assigned with little advance notice.

Preferred Qualifications Two years of college level education relating to visual arts. One to three years experience in an art museum or general museum/gallery or major library. Familiarity with the Rose Art Museum’s collection. 6-8 plus months prior experience as a Gallery Assistant in a cultural institution, or Brandeis University experience.

Working conditionsMay work around standard office conditions. Must be able to stand and walk for several hours at a time.
