Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Education Coordinator serves as a lead and support facilitator for the Museum’s education programs, which integrate current research and best practices and the Museum’s educational philosophy. The Coordinator is able and willing to facilitate a variety of programs, including but not limited to, family classes, camps, school group visits, drop-in programs, festivals, offsite programming, and staffing the Museum’s exhibitions. The Education Coordinator models best facilitation practices and trains and coaches Education Facilitators and Assistants on those best practices. This full-time, non-exempt position spends about 70% of total time facilitating educational programs and 30% on related administrative duties.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and maintain trusting relationships with schools, teachers, caregivers and their surrounding communities by prioritizing anti-bias and culturally sensitive teaching and providing exceptional customer service in accordance with Museum standards
- Welcome all groups to the Museum and support their arrival and check-in
- Facilitate educational programming for preschool-3rd grade students, teachers, and parents/caregivers, including off-site programming and Museum visits
- Schedule, train and supervise volunteer activities and/or paid Museum staff when they assist with School Programs
- Prepare, organize and maintain educational materials and classroom set-ups daily
- Primary person in charge of organization of program materials and supplies including ordering, stocking, maintenance and storage
- Participate as a team member in the development of educational content for preschool-3rd grade children, teachers, and parents/caregivers including off-site and museum visits
- Participate as a team member to ensure goals and objectives for school programs are met, including administering and tracking on-going evaluations and recording and documenting progress of the program.
- Participate as a team member and collaborate with other Museum departments on assigned projects

Job Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
- B.A. or B.S. in early childhood, science or art education, museum studies or relevant field strongly preferred.
- Bilingual strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with early childhood learning and pedagogical approaches, some coursework units or willingness to obtain them.
- Prior experience as a Discovery Guide or Educator at the Bay Area Discovery Museum preferred. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to take initiative, work independently, and troubleshoot in a fast paced work environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Basic computer skills including web-based survey/questionnaire services required
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, and Power Point is required.
- Experience in customer service.
- Must be trained or commit to being trained in First Aid, CPR, and AED for adult, infant and child.
- Must possess current California driver’s license and have reliable access to a car; local travel required.
- Two years related experience developing and facilitating programs in informal learning environment preferred.
