Gallery Intern

Description:
The new Ed Portal facility in north Allston opened its doors in February 2015 and includes a 120-seat performance space and a small gallery. The person hired for this internship will be involved in the curation and installation of exhibitions in the gallery but also in creating guidelines for gallery use including an exhibition checklist, statements regarding insurance and liability policies, agreements regarding sale of artwork, procedures for documenting exhibitions, and language for a call for guest curators and/or artists for group shows. A strong intern who successfully completes assigned projects will be given the opportunity to further pursue individual interests in the areas of curation, educational programming, exhibition design, and more, particularly if working for a full academic year.
Internship Schedule: 12-20 hours a week, September 2015-May 2016 (full-year commitment preferred but single-semester applicants will be considered) The selected intern will typically complete work M-F 9-5, but should have some flexibility for evening and weekend events as required.
Qualifications:
Candidates should have some level of experience and knowledge on the topics listed above (ideally through work experience and/or graduate studies) and be self-directed, creative thinkers ready to help tackle the challenge of getting a street-level gallery in an educational environment up and running in ways that serve both the university and neighborhood communities. This position requires the ability to communicate clearly, work independently, and be resourceful.
