Description

The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum seeks a creative thinker to design and deliver a range of museum programs that engage audiences in experiencing contemporary art and culture through our collections and robust exhibition programing. Under the supervision of the Director of Education, the ­­­­­­Manager of Museum Programs works in close collaboration with the Curatorial Affairs team to develop and implement programs that resonate with new and existing audiences; including faculty, students, youth, adults, seniors and general audiences.

 

DUTIES                                                                                                                                               

  • In collaboration with the Director of Education, develop and implement mission-based museum programs for all audience levels – from general to scholarly that respond to community and campus needs that inform audiences about contemporary art and culture.
  • Develop and produce lectures, panel discussions, symposiums, concerts, film screenings, performances, residencies, and one-off events that both contextualize ongoing exhibitions and align with community outreach goals.
  • Promote the use of the Museum’s collection and resources to students, faculty, and community audiences through innovative programs.
  • Coordinate exhibition receptions alongside of key internal collaborators including Curatorial Affairs, Development, Public Relationships, and Facilities.
  • Assume responsibility for on-time, on-budget, high quality programing that satisfies the needs of both the visitor and the museum. Communicate and collaborate with the appropriate museum staff including Curatorial Affairs Team, Public Relations, Development, and Facilities.
  • Generate descriptions and other written text used by Public Relations team.
  • Work with videographer to explore how video can be utilized in programs, event promotional videos, and coordinate event documentation.
  • With support from Visitor Services, develop, track, evaluate, and manage surveys and audience data for engagement, program implementation, and future program development.
  • Develop new audiences through beneficial partnerships with external agencies, community groups, and cultural organizations through targeted programs. Explore on- and off-site collaborations that encourage relationship building within the university, mid-Michigan, and larger communities served.
  • Outreach to MSU departments, individuals, and specialists from other universities and museums, as well as local community groups.
  • Participate and attend professional conferences and presentations within the Museum field and related disciplines on a local, regional, and national level.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

BA, BFA (MA, MFA preferred) in humanities field with specific interest in visual arts (art management, art history, museum education, museum studies, or combined applicable experience).

 

Desired Qualifications:

One to three years of experience planning & implementing arts and culture programing for a museum, arts center, art educational entity, or closely related field
