Seeking A Deputy Director

Bainbridge Island Museum of Art seeks a Deputy Director who will bring needed attention and focus to building an infrastructure that allows for increasingly efficient and effective operation of the Museum at this stage and moving forward.  Simultaneously, this position allows for the Executive Director to focus externally, strategically, and on the curatorial in ways that ensure the Museum’s long term sustainability.  This is a rich opportunity for a candidate who loves to bring their experience and expertise to this kind of organizational evolution with people and on the operational side.  And to do so with a talented Executive Director, Board of Directors, and Staff in a supportive and dynamic community passionate about celebrating regional art and craft by living artists.  Near term initiatives include creating and solidifying operational infrastructure, increasing earned revenue from retail, restaurant and rental operations, expanding staff and facilities, and improving technology and business systems.

Requirements
  • Master’s degree or equivalent education and training in Museum Management, Business, Accounting, Public Service, or a related field.
  • Eight to ten years senior leadership experience in non-profit environment, preferably a museum and including a proven track record in budgeting and financial management, strategic planning, project management, human resources, risk management, facilities management, retail, food service.
  • Strong nonprofit financial skills including budget development, forecasting and analysis; accounting procedures, coordinating audit activities and managing reporting.
  • Experience with developing earned-revenue and/or social enterprise within a nonprofit environment or for-profit business development a plus.
  • Comfortable navigating and managing change and the ambiguity that comes with it.
  • Significant experience with organizations experiencing major growth and transition.
  • Strong organizational skills and a proven track record of managing and executing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Committed to getting results and managing resources effectively.
  • Top-notch communication skills, with the ability to listen actively, present to groups and the media, proactively lead conversations and manage next steps.
  • Excellent organizational development and leadership skills, including the ability to foster a diverse, compelling, and positive organization and culture.
  • Experience recruiting, managing, supervising, and evaluating staff and volunteers.
  • Knowledge of the workings and best practices of non-profit boards and experience with boards.
  • Experience with volunteer programs and their success factors.
