Job Title: Director of Development

Job Summary:
The Director of Development is responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining a fundraising program to support and enhance the mission of the Foundation to include the following areas: the major gifts program, annual fund, planned giving, corporate and foundation fundraising, special events and capital campaign. The Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Board of Trustees in all development and fund raising endeavors.
Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for global fundraising strategy which will result in the design of short- and long-term fundraising goals; the creation of a development calendar; and implementation of the fundraising strategy.
- Direct the annual fund program, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
- Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
- Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, utilizing specialized staff as necessary and reporting requirements. Develop and track proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising.
- Build the planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
- Direct all capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
- Participate in the planning, management, and sponsorship of all fundraising events.
- Oversee and manage staff responsible for data entry and gift processing (eTapestry database).
- Maintain gift recognition programs.
- Attend Foundation events and cultivate/steward prospects and donors.
- Attend community events, networking events, and conferences to further fundraising goals and professional development.
- Attend Board Development and Committee meetings.
- Oversee creation and publication of all fundraising collateral.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Requirements
- 8 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, communications, business administration or related field.
- Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
- Proven track record of raising funds from multiple sources.
- Knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
- Donor data management and fund development analytics.
- Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other stakeholders.
- Must have ability to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
- Demonstrate follow through on tasks and goals; ability to multi-task and work independently and as part of a team.
- Display a positive attitude, demonstrate presence, self-confidence and good listening ability.
- Budgeting and business plan development.
- Possess a strong attention to detail.
- Have a valid driving license and dependable car for use in various tasks.
