Vizcaya Museum and Gardens seeks a creative and energetic professional to serve as its Assistant for Collections Management at this pivotal moment in the estate’s history. Vizcaya is a National Historic Landmark in Miami, FL, that is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The estate’s Centennial is approaching and Vizcaya’s 5-Year Strategic Plan guides ongoing efforts to complete capital improvements and enhance the institution’s role as a vital community asset. Vizcaya attracts nearly 200,000 visitors annually (including program participants and clients at evening events) and the coming years will see increasing emphasis on the rehabilitation and reinterpretation of the Vizcaya Village to introduce new urban agriculture and open space initiatives there.
The Assistant for Collections Management will support all aspects of collections management in the Division of Collections and Curatorial Affairs, including cataloguing, maintenance of catalog cards and object files, annual inventory, tracking of objects’ movement, incoming and outgoing loans, database management (Proficio), and collections research. Additionally, s/he will support exhibition initiatives, including the development and installation of case displays and temporary exhibitions in the decorated rooms, and virtual initiatives that endeavor to disseminate information on the collection. Other tasks will include some logistical and administrative support of the division, and other tasks as needed.
The Assistant for Collections Management works in a team consisting of an Archivist, Assistant Curator (vacant), Collections Care Specialist, Conservator, and Curator. The team is led by the Deputy Director for Collections and Curatorial Affairs. The position reports to the Deputy Director for Collections and Curatorial Affairs.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Art History, Museum Studies or related field. One year of experience working in a collections management, registrar or curatorial capacity for an established art gallery or museum. The position requires an individual able to lift up to 35 pounds and work on a ladder. Ability to work on a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Must possess or obtain a valid driver’s license.
Additional preferences: Competency with collections management software. Ability to represent the museum in a professional manner. Excellent communication skills.
