The MIT List Visual Arts Center is seeking facilitators for our upcoming exhibition, List Projects: Kambui Olujimi, which runs January 21 through February 23. The exhibition features Olujimi’s project “A Life in Pictures,” which transforms one of our galleries into a social space where participants will be able to exchange their own pictures from images from the artist’s extensive photo archive. The exhibition explore social connections that visitors can make when sharing images and stories from their lives with others, and includes an oral history component where they can record their stories. More information about this show can be found here:http://listart.mit.edu/exhibitions/current.
Facilitators for this project would be expected to work in the galleries while the show is open to the public, and guide visitors on the logistics of the exhibition so they participate fully in the exchange. Comfort with engaging with visitors as well as an interest in participatory art is key. Facilitators will also be asked to periodically assist with recording stories shared by visitors using a hand-held recording device, as well as gain visitors’ consent. Additionally, facilitators may be tasked with printing visitors’ pictures from an in-gallery computer.
A typical shift will be from 12-6 pm with slots open Tuesdays through Sundays (shifts are 12 to 8 pm on Thursdays). Facilitators will be paid $15 per hour, and will have to sign up through MIT’s temp agency, MITemps, ahead of time. All facilitators must be able to work in the United States.
Please contact Courtney Klemens at cklemens@mit.edu if you’re interested in participating as a facilitator.
