One of the newest museums in New York City, the Rubin Museum of Art is dedicated to creating a dynamic environment that stimulates learning, promotes understanding, and inspires personal connections to the idea, cultures, and art of the Himalayas. Now in its tenth year, the Rubin Museum welcomes over 175,000 visitors annually and has 4,000 members. The Rubin Museum’s preeminent collection includes works of art from present-day Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, and the Tibetan Plateau. The pace is lively with more than ten changing exhibitions and more than 250 films, concerts and on-stage conversations a year.

The Museum has set as one of its top priorities for the coming years to raise awareness of the institution at a local, national and global level. This position will play a critical role in helping the Rubin become non-profit sector leader in the digital/social media space as well as increase the number of people who engage directly with the Rubin both online and – in turn – driving attendance to the Museum’s galleries, programs and other offerings.

We are looking for an individual with a passion for social and digital media, a deep understanding of industry trends and new and innovative ways to engage audiences online through compelling content and diverse strategies. Vision, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit, combined with strong project management, organizational and communication skills are critical in this position. This position also performs administrative duties in support of the broader Marketing & Communications team.

Reporting to the Head of Marketing & Communications, the Digital Engagement Assistant Manager oversees the Museum’s overall social media program and e-marketing efforts. This position also in part reports to the Public Relations & Marketing Manager; and the Manager, Digital Content & Productions.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Social Media:
• Oversee and manage the Museum’s primary social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Tumblr – as well as any new platforms added in the future
o Ensure all platforms maintain a consistent online brand identity/voice
o Develop and maintain a curated social media editorial calendar; schedule and posts content accordingly
o Collaborate across Museum departments and Museum partners to identify and develop content
o Engage the online community through a sustained, thoughtful, consistent and on-brand conversation; respond to comments/messages as appropriate
o Identify compelling non-Museum related content relevant to our audience to share on social media platforms
o Upload and manage YouTube channel content

Blog:
• Oversee and manage the Museum’s forthcoming blog
o Maintain and curate an editorial calendar
o Collaborate across Museum’s departments and partners to develop content
o Monitor, manage and respond to blog comments, as appropriate

E-Marketing:
• Support the e-marketing team in the development of email newsletters:
o Review and edit all e-newsletter proofs and track creation process from start to finish, ensuring appropriate deadlines are met.
o Spearhead creation of monthly e-news program by working with Museum departments to source content.
o Assist in managing e-marketing mailing lists and new opt-in contact information uploads.

Administrative:
• Monitor, identify and share appropriate digital trends/competitor developments to ensure Museum’s digital presence is at the cutting edge in the non-profit/cultural institution industry.
• Support the Marketing & Communications team with invoice processing, mail pick up as well as other departmental administrative tasks.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required.
• One to three years of experience working in the social media/digital space.
• Strong interest in the arts and culture of the Himalayas, India and neighboring regions.
• Passion for pop-culture and strong understanding of digital industry trends and social media influencers.
• Detail oriented, excellent organizational skills, and impeccable writing skills. Must be able to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Outgoing personality enjoys working with people, creative and energetic, able to work in a fast-paced environment simultaneously handling many projects.
• Excellent judgment, interpersonal skills to deal with the public as well as with colleagues.
• A self-starter and team player with a “can do” attitude.
• Ability to act with diplomacy and discretion at all organizational levels, work with a wide range of information, organize details and meet deadlines under pressure.
• Proficiency in the use of social media platforms including: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Instagram, and YouTube – required.
• Exemplary computer skills in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. Knowledge of editing tools such as Photoshop, iMovie, etc. a plus.
• Flexibility to post social media content on weekends, as needed (minimal time expected)
