Position Title: Whitney Museum Assistant to School and Educator Programs

Position Description: The Whitney Museum is hiring an Assistant to School and Educator Programs. This is an exciting time as the Museum prepares to open its new building in the Meatpacking District. School and Educator programs use works of art in the Whitney’s collection and exhibitions to create a forum for ideas, debate, and exchange. Programs at the Museum and in the classroom offer students and teachers opportunities to explore American art while learning from artists and each other. The Assistant will:• Serve as a primary contact for K-12 teachers and Partnership Schools• Serve as a primary liaison for all freelance museum educators• Work closely with Visitor Services, Security, Education, and other Museum Departments to ensure that guided tours run smoothly• Greet and orient students groups who visit the Museum• Assist with inquiry-based tours and art-making workshops at the Museum• Manage the mailing list, create reports, and monitor attendance• Assist the School and Educator Programs Coordinator with outreach and audience research• Assist with evaluation projects• Process invoices and other administrative tasks• Organize the studio space and supplies, purchasing and inventory of supplies• Assist with School Partnership Programs• Assist with Educator Programs• Assist as needed in other areas of the Education DepartmentThe candidate should be interested in learning more about the field of museum education, and have demonstrated knowledge of current practices in museum education. This position is primarily administrative.

Qualifications: Requirements: B.A. in art history, museum education, community arts, or related field; M. A. preferred; 2+ years’ experience teaching and working with K-12 students, teachers and administrators. The successful candidate will have exceptional administrative support skills, strong communication skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects at once. He/she should have an interest in working with diverse groups of students and downtown communities as well as knowledge of contemporary art.
