TITLE: Museum Instructor

REPORTS TO: Manager of Interpretive Programs

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Museum Instructor position provides program delivery both on-site and off-site throughout the year on a

part time basis. This includes an average of 10-12 hours per week of instruction on-site school programs,

special education events, and off-site programs.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in all training and informational meetings presented throughout the year.

2. Become knowledgeable about the lesson materials and subject matter in order to provide accurate information.

3. Present programs in an exciting and interactive manner to varied audiences and for various learning styles.

4. Always handle museum objects and materials responsibly and professionally. Take care of Heritage collection

pieces and teaching collection materials.

5. Follow and assume responsibility for interpreting and enforcing program policies and rules in order to provide a

safe environment for participants, museum visitors and staff.

6. Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving.

7. Maintain positive public relations with guardians, educators, museum visitors and the general public at all times.

Be an “ambassador” for Heritage.

8. Observe participants’ behavior, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate behavior-management

techniques.

9. Serve as a positive role model and conduct self in proper manner in personal behavior, appearance, language and

attitudes.

10. Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Visitor Engagement Department staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.

2. Ability to travel to Cape Cod schools.

3. Interest in teaching or working with students of all ages.

4. Must be flexible in scheduling; understand this is a seasonal position with teaching busiest in spring and fall.

5. Must be able to travel between museum buildings and across grounds.

6. Must agree to a criminal background check.

7. Ability to work as a team member, provides ideas, and accepts feedback.

8. Enthusiasm for Heritage Museums & Gardens and its collections.
