Job Description
The Indianapolis Museum of Art seeks a skilled professional to provide administrative assistance and curatorial support to the museum’s curators of European and American painting, sculpture, and works on paper. Responsibilities include participating in the research and interpretation of the permanent collection, including label writing, docent training, and answering internal and external inquiries. The assistant also provides clerical support for loans, acquisitions, and gallery rotations; updates records within the collection database; and makes travel arrangements. Other duties include assisting the curators with special exhibitions through research, budget tracking, checklist maintenance, and interdepartmental coordination. The curatorial assistant routinely attends curatorial meetings and discussions with conservators about treatment proposals.
Job Requirements
Qualifications: M.A. in Art History or a related discipline, pertinent work experience, demonstrated project management and organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, proficiency in at least one Romance language and aptitude in Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
