Membership and Annual Fund Coordinator [John F. Kennedy Library Foundation]

The Department of Development at the John F. Kennedy Library Foundation is searching for a Membership and Annual Fund Coordinator to lead the effort in museum member acquisition and retention, and to ensure the success the Foundation’s annual fund.

The Membership and Annual Fund Coordinator will be comfortable being “the face of membership,” ready to promote its benefits to prospective members at all John F. Kennedy Library events, and will take a lead role in coordinating direct mail and e-solicitations.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Coordinating the cycle of membership renewals and acquisitions and annual fund direct mail and e-appeals;
  • Maintaining member correspondence and benefits fulfillment;
  • Production of solicitations, including list management and analysis;
  • Working with vendors on content, design, production, and calendar for all print and online membership and annual fund materials;
  • Working with Digital Strategies and Communications to streamline and enhance all online and mobile giving pages;
  • Actively working with Foundation and Library and Museum staffs to attract and engage new museum members;
  • Stewarding member and annual fund donors who make gifts up to $1,000;
  • Working closely with all Development staff on events, taking a lead role in membership events;
  • Creating quarterly reports to chart progress towards Development’s revenue goals
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience with museum membership and/or annual fund programs;
  • Superior interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills, with ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities;
  • Some evening and weekend work required;
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office software, and working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database

Visitor Services Associate [The Mary Baker Eddy Library]

Handles visitor access and hospitality at the Library’s facility in Boston. Serves as initial public access point for the Library’s research room and offices. This position primarily handles monetary transactions, and engages with the public in both structured and unstructured settings.

Admissions: Sells tickets, provides visitor orientation and individual assistance for the exhibits, gives directions, handles bag check, administers lost and found, receives visitor feedback.

Mapparium Tours: Leads tours of The Mapparium 2-3 hours per day. Answers visitor questions, and enforces Library policies in exhibit spaces.

Develops and maintains an in-depth knowledge of the Library’s exhibits, themes, services, and subject areas, including ideas, life, and achievements of Mary Baker Eddy. Answers questions and serves as a pro-active resource to the visiting public. Also provides coaching and support to volunteers helping with the visitor services activity.

Constantly monitors the visitor experience to meet visitor needs and requests, provide direction, and help visitors have an enjoyable and thoughtful experience. Resolves visitor issues quickly and effectively, ensuring visitor security and safety. Takes particular care of visitors with special needs (handicap access, etc.). Helps maintain clean and organized public spaces and alerts others to equipment malfunctions.

Performs other duties as assigned. For example, assists with guided tours and educational activities as requested.

 

Qualifications:

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Customer service, retail, or similar experience dealing in person with the public, preferably tourists. Ability to handle monetary transactions with ease and accuracy, including handling and counting cash. Should have basic math skills, computer knowledge, and the ability to learn quickly, preferably with a background or strong interest in history and public education. Flexible with strong attention to details and math. Takes initiative and works well with the public. Good oral and face-to-face communication skills. Committed to a world-class level of customer service and providing the best possible visitor experience.

Events & Outreach Coordinator [Mount Auburn Cemetery]

We are currently seeking an outgoing, dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of Events & Outreach Coordinator.  The Events & Outreach Coordinator will work directly with clients, visitors and internal staff to ensure that our clients and visitors enjoy the highest quality visitor experience.

Duties include, but are not limited to, managing the rental of Cemetery facilities for all non-funeral uses, including wedding ceremonies and private events, assisting in the planning and execution of public programs and special events, coordinating set-up needs and audio-visual and technical support at all public programs and ensuring adequate staffing for public programs and memorial services.  Additionally, the Coordinator manages the scheduling of group visits, requests for permission to take photographs at the Cemetery and manages income received through weddings, group tours, and public programs and filming.  This role also offers the opportunity to exercise your creative side as you will assist in the development of new outreach activities to attract new audiences to Mount Auburn.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:  A bachelor’s degree or equivalent plus a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience, demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office.  Familiarity with WordPress and ability to use the Web and social media are highly desirable.  Candidates must have excellent communication skills, previous experience handling financial transactions, managing inventories, and dealing with the public.  The ability to resolve problems and remain calm and professional in any situation is critical.  An interest in social history, natural history and/or horticulture is highly desirable.  A willingness to become familiar and knowledgeable with Mount Auburn Cemetery is essential.

This is a fulltime (40-hours per week) position with a work schedule of Tuesday through Saturday and may require working Sundays and/or evenings for special events.  A valid drivers’ license is required.

English Village Horticultural Summer Internship [Plimoth Plantation, Inc.]

Are you interested in historic horticulture and workways?  Do you love getting your hands dirty and learning in a collaborative environment?  Plimoth Plantation, one of the regions premier living history museums, is offering an English Village Horticultural Internship for summer 2015.   This position will provide the chosen candidate with a unique opportunity to explore 17th century horticultural theory and practices in a museum setting.  Interns will be mentored by the Manager of the English Village, our Horticulturalist and English Village Garden Specialist in this collaborative, hands-on internship that will build insight and experience into the cultivation, maintenance, and reproduction of 17th century gardens in the English Village.
Position Summary:
Under the mentorship of Manager of the English Village, our Horticulturalist and English Village Garden Specialist, the English Village Horticultural Intern will gain insight and experience into the maintenance and reproduction raised bed   gardens in the recreated 17th century English village. The intern will learn plant identification, propagation, garden design and pest management.  While cultivating plants commonly used in 17th century Plymouth, the intern will gain knowledge of herb, vegetable and native plant uses.  They will become acquainted with humoral theory, a philosophy that guided medical theory and practice among the 17th century English. The ideal candidate will be comfortable helping both behind the scenes and interpreting in front of the public, to explain and illustrate colonial garden practices and to further the museum’s educational mission to preserve heirloom plants and historic workways. This internship also provides an opportunity to collaborate with staff, volunteers and fellow interns in complementary museum departments, including Colonial Interpretation, Farm and Education. A self-designed research project is both possible and encouraged.
Responsibilities:
  • Under the supervision of English Village and Horticulture staff, assist with maintenance of English village gardens and demonstration herb boxes
  • Participate in collaborative projects designing new planting spaces
  • Assist with greenhouse operations,  planting seedlings for use on site
  • Conduct research and development as needed to complete projects
  • Interpret  heirloom plants and their use in the 17th and 21st century for Plimoth Plantation guests
Plimoth Plantation’s 2015 Summer Internship Program is a full-time commitment, running for May 26-July 17, 2015.  Housing is available to those out of driving distance on a lottery basis.
Qualifications:
Educational experience in the study of horticulture or a related field, basic knowledge of gardening techniques and terminology, ability to work outdoors in weather extremes and  lift fifty pounds, good organizational  and communication skills, an interest in garden history and  an enjoyment in working with the public.

Historical Clothing and Textile Summer Internship [Plimoth Plantation, Inc.]

From hand-made clothing and domestic furnishings to public demonstrations and programming, Plimoth Plantation’s Historical Clothing and Textiles Program is one of the many components that allow the Museum to bring history to life! Through practical, hands-on learning experiences, the Historical Clothing and Textiles Artisan intern will learn how reproducing historically accurate clothing in a museum setting encompasses a multitude of skills and processes, including research and development, use of period and modern construction techniques.  Interns will also have the opportunity to share this knowledge and skill with our guests who visit Plimoth Plantation!
Position Summary: 
Under the mentorship of the Manager of the Historical Clothing and Textiles Department, the Historical Clothing and Textile intern will gain valuable experience and insight into the steps involved in reproducing period clothing including research in the departmental and museum libraries. The intern will build skills and knowledge in pattern drafting, period construction techniques, 17th century accessories or trims (thread wrapped buttons, card woven trim, hat making, etc) and the unique workings of a costume shop within a museum environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Under the mentorship of the Manager and other textile artisans, construct garments from individual measurements to final fitting and finishing
  • Assist in maintenance of interpreters wardrobe, including laundry and mending
  • Assist in the daily operations of costume shop, including attending daily meeting, and scheduling appointments
  • Shadow textile artisan in public Craft Center space
  • Conduct research and development as needed to complete projects
  • Assist with collaborative inter-department textile related programming and projects as needed, including summer camp program, special events, retail projects, and knitting group
  • Collaborate and assist with department’s volunteers
Plimoth Plantation’s 2015 Summer Internship Program is a full-time commitment, running for May 26-July 17, 2015.  Housing is available to those out of driving distance on a lottery basis.
Qualifications:
Basic patterning skills, experience with operating industrial sewing machinery, hand stitching skills, familiarity with textile vocabulary, knowledge and/or interest in post-medieval or early modern history.
