Curatorial Internship-Summer 2015 [deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum]

Curatorial Interns at deCordova engage in a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities as they participate in the day-to-day operations of a contemporary art museum and sculpture park. Interns work closely with staff curators and the registrar, and help with exhibition preparations, update collection files, maintain records, organize daily office operations, and conduct art historical research related to exhibitions and the permanent collection. Interns are integral to the success of the curatorial department and as such, they are fully integrated into the work environment. Interns observe and participate in a variety of department and inter-department brainstorming and organization meetings and learn the structural, strategic, and operational decisions at play in a contemporary art institution. Specific responsibilities for Summer 2015 (May-September) will tentatively include, but are not limited to, work on research, logistical planning, and implementation assistance for current and upcoming exhibitions; conducting a variety of research pertaining to works in the permanent collection; work on upcoming Sculpture Park installations and related projects, and any administrative assistance required in the department.
Qualifications:
The curatorial staff at deCordova seeks a self-motivated art history graduate or upper level undergraduate student with specific interest in contemporary art and future career goals to work as a curator in a contemporary art museum. Applicants should have strong organizational abilities and computer skills, including literacy in the Microsoft Office Suite and scanning and image software. Prospective applicants should be aware that the Curatorial Internship is an unpaid, volunteer position. Because public transportation does not service deCordova and interns frequently help with errand running, a car is a must. The Curatorial Intern must commit to a minimum of two, eight-hour days per week for the agreed upon duration of the internship, which typically lasts three to four months. Intern may occasionally be asked to assist with programs occurring on Thursday evenings and Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Museum Assistant [The Sports Museum]

Assist in the daily operations for The Sports Museum including keeping daily attendance records and ensuring exhibits and interactive displays are operating properly. Assist in the installation and maintenance of exhibits. Greet the public and provide customer assistance. Assist the Education Department and help supervise children’s groups visiting the Museum. Distribute Museum materials in inquiring parties and help in structured activities for children’s camp/school groups. Provide administrative assistance including answering phones, proofreading,
shipping and mailing, etc. Other duties as assigned.

Eastern Massachusetts Circuit Rider [Preservation Massachusetts]

Preservation Massachusetts is seeking to hire a preservation Circuit Rider in Eastern Massachusetts.  Founded in 1985, Preservation Massachusetts is the statewide non-profit organization that actively promotes the preservation of historic buildings and landscapes as a positive force for economic development and the retention of community character. The Circuit Rider position is an “in the field” position and a direct service of Preservation Massachusetts’ advocacy mission. Job Description:

Title: Eastern Massachusetts Preservation Circuit Rider
Supervisor: James Igoe, Preservation Massachusetts

WORK OBJECTIVES: 
Representing Preservation Massachusetts, provide direct services to local organizations and communities which are actively involved in historic preservation efforts, and to build a strong ongoing presence for preservation in communities throughout the Commonwealth.

DUTIES: 
1. Provide guidance on a variety of subjects including preservation techniques and approaches,

fundraising, organizational development, capacity building, community relations and

politics, community development, conservation issues, public relations, and the

availability of preservation resources.
2. Represent Preservation Massachusetts to communities throughout Massachusetts and make  assistance available from the organization (or relevant partners) to those communities whenever appropriate.

 

3. Develop a network of preservation supporters throughout the Commonwealth who are willing and able to assist one another with preservation knowledge and experience, and serve as a link between such persons to those needing their assistance through individualized communication, new e-communication networks, workshops and conferences.

 

4. Participate in regular meetings and programs of Preservation Massachusetts.  Assist with the Preservation Massachusetts’ communication efforts that relate to Circuit Rider services.  Identify opportunities for Preservation Massachusetts program assistance, such as the annual Massachusetts Most Endangered list, potential Revolving Fund projects, preservation workshops, advocacy support, etc.
5. Represent Preservation Massachusetts with various partner organizations across the state and participate in programs, workshops, conferences is necessary and applicable.

 

6. Work actively to build constituent support for Preservation Massachusetts by maintaining records of contacts made, photographs of projects, through online databases and file storage.

 

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS: 
-Strong leadership and presence, with excellent leadership and communication skills.

-The ability to work collegially with a wide variety of interests, constituencies and partners.

-Independent work ability and ethic, able to juggle many tasks and responsibilities.

-Substantial experience in community organizing and activism, networking, preservation, fundraising, law, real estate, planning, development, government, journalism and or/advocacy.

-Travel around the region is mandatory and access to a vehicle is necessary. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

-Undergraduate degree in preservation or related field preferred. Masters degree desirable.

Marketing Coordinator [Edward M. Kennedy Institute For The United States Senate]

This Role: 

Reporting to the Director of Marketing, the Marketing Coordinator will assist in the development and implementation of strategic marketing plans, processes, procedures, and policies for the Institute.  He/she will create and edit marketing materials and support events as needed.  This is a temporary position expected to continue for up to 6 months.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with developing marketing materials for various channels including video, print, social media, web, mail, email, radio, television, etc.
  • Research, develop, and maintain databases for all targeted audiences
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned

Spark!Lab Floor Manager [Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History]

This position is located in the Jerome and Dorothy Lemelson Center for the Study of Invention and

Innovation (Lemelson Center) at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH) in

Washington, DC under the direct supervision of the Interpretive Exhibit Manager. The Floor Manager is

responsible for coordinating daily operations of Spark!Lab, a hands-on invention space for children and

The Lemelson Center is dedicated to exploring invention in history and encouraging inventive creativity in

The Floor Manager will:

1. Assist with recruiting, hiring, and training to provide adequate staffing in Spark!Lab from a diverse

group of docents and volunteers.

2. Oversee daily operations in Spark!Lab, develop daily schedules for facilitators, docents and volunteers

and work with Interpretive Exhibit Manager to provide adequate staffing that will create meaningful

visitor experiences for the number of visitors and types of audiences anticipated.

3. Present educational programs in Spark!Lab for general Museum visitors, specifically children and
