Carl A. Weyerhaeuser Curator OR Associate Curator of Prints [Harvard Art Museums]

Responsible for the care, documentation, research, presentation, publication, and for strengthening the collection of European and American prints. The curator of prints is expected to be an intellectual authority on, and to assume the full range of curatorial responsibility for, the collection of prints at the Museums and to advise on related matters at the university when needed. The curator crafts an ambitious exhibition, research and publication program for prints and works closely with students and faculty to foster a significant and sustained curricular use of the collection for both undergraduate and graduate teaching. The curator works within a team environment and promotes dialogue, engagement, and collaboration with colleagues within the division and with curatorial departments that have overlapping collection holdings and expertise. The curator recommends purchases, works closely with collectors and museum supporters, solicits gifts for the collection, and assumes an active role in soliciting funds for museum purposes, including acquisitions, exhibitions, conservation and technical analysis projects, and publications, from individuals, foundations, federal agencies and other sources.

Job Requirements
For Full/Senior level position:

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. in art history; minimum of 8 years progressively responsible curatorial or field-related experience.

Additional Qualifications:

Demonstrated record of scholarship and achievement in the field of prints pre-1900, and a commitment to working in a university setting.

For Associate level position:

This is a 5 year term position with the possibility of extension.

Basic Qualifications:

Ph.D. in art history; minimum of five years progressively responsible curatorial or field-related experience.

Additional Qualifications:

Demonstrated record of scholarship and achievement in the field of prints pre-1900, and a commitment to working in a university setting.

Digital Assets Manager [The Willem de Kooning Foundation]

The Willem de Kooning Foundation is seeking a highly organized, discreet, and detail-oriented individual to fill the position of Digital Assets Manager. The position will direct the processing of all digital assets—comprised of images of Willem de Kooning, his studio and artworks, as well as other archival materials—within the Foundation’s existing specialized systems. The position will also work with the Foundation’s research and archives staff on digitization projects, facilitate access to digital materials, and manage image rights. Specific responsibilities include:

direct acquisition, description, organization, and migration of born-digital and converted digital assets.
maintain the digital asset infrastructure and codify related standards and protocols.
develop the Foundation’s digital asset management system.
develop and manage metadata tools, standardization solutions, and controlled vocabularies to ensure accuracy and consistency.
ensure the long-term storage of the Foundation’s digital assets, monitor system hardware, and administer digital asset software including license contracts, upgrades, etc.
plan and direct digitization projects and perform ad-hoc digitization as required.
respond to rights and reproductions requests.
review publication layouts to ensure works by de Kooning are reproduced accurately and in accordance with the Foundation’s terms of use.
work with institutions and scholars on image requests for upcoming publications.
procure images of works of art from outside sources and manage related rights and license agreements.
oversee new photography of works in the Foundation’s collection as necessary, and monitor color-correctness.
manage the growth of the Foundation’s website, including the addition of new components and images.
Job Requirements
Master’s Degree in library and information science, archives management, museum studies, art history or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience; five or more years of practical experience in a museum, archive, library, or other institution demonstrating expertise in the tasks listed above; experience managing large-scale projects and organizing extensive collections of information; thorough knowledge of field-wide metadata standards; strong understanding of digital file processing (capture, formats and codecs, color profiling, file conversion, dissemination, etc.); proven expertise with digital asset management systems, Filemaker Pro, and Adobe Photoshop suite.

The winning candidate must demonstrate: an aptitude for complex analytical work with strong attention to detail; an ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; ability to communicate effectively on technology issues with technical and non-technical staff; strong writing and proofreading skills; fastidious work habits; self-starter with the ability to take direction; strong visual acuity as it relates to color-correctness.

Camp Instructor – Adventures in Nature [Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County]

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Camp Instructor, Adventures In Nature- Summer Camp. As part of the Education & Exhibits Division, the Camp Instructor works closely with the assigned Camp Counselors, Camp Lead and Manager, Programs to support, implement and facilitate summer camp programs. Primary responsibilities include (but are not limited to): teaching campers pre-developed curriculum, working closely with Camp Counselors for activity development & facilitation, planning and presenting programs, and helping create an engaging, creative and educational camp experience. The AIN Camp Instructor is expected to become familiar with camp programs and museum resources at both the Page and Natural History Museum in order to be able to lead campers and camp counselors effectively. In addition, the Camp Instructor will interact with Guest Relations, Gallery Interpreters, Research and Collections and other staff at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County and the Page Museum. As this position involves daily contact with children, Camp Counselors and NHM Staff, the position requires effective communication skills. The ideal candidate will possess a high degree of professionalism and courteousness. Previous experience with summer camps or another informal learning environment with children, and a general interest in natural history is required.

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a temporary full time position from June 15, 2015 – August 07, 2015.

Senior Curator, Exhibitions & Education Projects [LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes]

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes serves the public by providing educational experiences through public programming and exhibitions that celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Mexicans, Mexican Americans and all Latinos in Southern California. LA Plaza opened to the public in 2011 in two renovated buildings located in the downtown Los Angeles historic core. Established by the County of Los Angeles, LA Plaza operates as a non-profit organization governed by a board of directors and is funded through the County’s cultural arts program.

LA Plaza seeks a dynamic, accomplished senior curator to provide leadership and vision within its mission. The curator will conceive, implement, and oversee a series of ambitious exhibition programs for the core exhibition and temporary exhibitions, ranging from pre-Columbian to contemporary issues; with a focus on untold histories. He/she will create, plan, implement, supervise and evaluate all of the exhibitions and educational programs for the cultural center that may include; exhibitions, programs, and workshops. He/she will work with the team and outside consultants to develop education curricula lessons that reflect California’s state teaching standards, as they relate to the exhibitions and programs.

The position is also responsible for developing, securing and overseeing educational programs funded by foundation and corporate partners. The successful candidate will also develop and administer the department’s budget and project manage grants by creating narrative, budgets, and budget reconciliation, in addition to performing other related duties as assigned by the CEO.

The position serves as part of the organization’s senior team and interacts on a daily basis with all staff members in developing coordinated, comprehensive programming that drives museum attendance.

Job Requirements

4-5 years experience in a museum setting required.
