Ford’s Theatre Society seeks a dynamic Youth Programs Manager to
establish and expand programs that use oratory to engage young people
and teachers with history, performance and leadership. The Youth
Programs Manager will be an integral part of the education department in
a growing historic site / theatre complex. Responsibilities include:
managing curriculum and relationships with teachers in Washington and
across the country; recruiting and training teaching artists / museum
educators; managing program content and timelines for student and
teacher initiatives; managing youth programs expenses and income; and
maintaining and strengthening the programs’ presence in the history
and leadership education communities. The ideal candidate will have
administrative and teaching experience, excellent written and
communication skills, enthusiasm for social media and distance learning
platforms; and experience with Microsoft Office. The position begins in

The Youth Programs Manager (FT) oversees youth programs, including
long-term in-school and after-school programs. The Youth Programs
Manager’s primary responsibilities are launching and managing the
Oratory Fellows program and National Oratory Competition; recruitment,
training and management of Youth Programs teaching artists; and
management of curriculum for Youth Programs. Specific responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
● Cultivating and managing relationships with teachers and schools involved in Oratory Fellows and National Oratory Competition programs.
● Recruiting, training and managing Youth Programs teaching artists.
● Creating and documenting curriculum plans for Youth Programs.
● Establishing distance learning training and support programs for Oratory Fellows.
● Observing and assessing teaching artist classroom experiences and youth programs in action.
● Developing summer youth programs based on current models.
● Overseeing all programmatic elements of Youth Programs performances, in coordination with the Education Programs Manager, including appropriate coordination with production, communications and development offices.
● Working with Distance Learning Coordinator to develop appropriate technological tools for recruiting and processing National Oratorical Competition submissions and Oratory Fellows communications.
● Creating and adhering to a timeline for implementation of the National Oratory Competition.
● Developing and implementing evaluation tools for measuring program efficacy.
● Planning and maintaining effective lines of communication with any and all outside evaluators and consultants.
● Building and maintaining relationships with local and national groups relevant to Youth Programs work.
● Overseeing design and distribution of appropriate Youth Programs outreach materials.
● Managing Youth Programs and Oratory Programs budgets, including income and expenditures.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Education preferred
● Substantial classroom experience required (though it need not be full time teaching experience)
● Superior written and verbal communications skills
● Commitment to creating youth development programs and teaching and learning opportunities of the highest caliber
● Experience with Word and Excel programs
● Understanding of the school environment and politics
The Youth Programs Manager reports to the Director of Education. This
is an exempt position.
