Assistant Curator – Arms and Armor [The Met]

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the world’s finest museums, seeks an Assistant Curator, Arms and Armor, specializing in either European or Islamic arms and armor, who will actively participate in the care and management of the collection and support and contribute to all activities of the Department, including cataloguing, research, publications, installations, special exhibitions, acquisitions, and loans.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Research and catalogue coherent sections of the collection, and assist in creating, updating, and reviewing standards and object records in the collections database (TMS);
Participate in the organization of permanent gallery exhibits, including the planning, coordination, and oversight of rotations, label writing, and related maintenance of collections database;
Assist with the development of onsite and online initiatives and contents to enhance the visibility of and access to the collection;
Publish research on the collection and contribute to the teaching mission of the Museum through public lectures, docent training, and mentorship of volunteers, interns, and fellows;
Assist the Department Head in fostering and maintaining relationships with donors, trustees, and colleagues from other institutions in the U.S. and abroad, and with dealers and collectors;
Develop programs and reports for the Visiting Committee and friends of the Department;
Answer inquiries relating to the collection and assist the public and visiting scholars;
Other related duties.

Curatorial Assistant [Cincinnati Art Museum]

The Cincinnati Art Museum seeks applicants for the position of Curatorial Assistant. This is a permanent, full-time, and exempt staff position with an excellent benefit package.

Position Overview:

The Curatorial Assistant works directly with the curator of fashion arts and textiles. This position is responsible for the research, documentation, care, exhibition, and preservation of works of art in the permanent collection; various responsibilities related to the implementation of temporary exhibitions, and organizational tasks as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Researches and documents objects in the curatorial collections.

Assists in the development and installation of temporary exhibitions and the permanent collections.

Attends curatorial and exhibition planning meetings as assigned.

Assists with photography of permanent collection objects.

Assists with the mounting of permanent collection objects; basic sewing skills required.

Assists in the acquisition of objects for the permanent collections, including research and cataloging duties as assigned.

Assists in writings grants to support research activities.

Potentially writes for publications.

Lectures to museum audiences and other appropriate venues.

Educates docents and volunteers with regards to the division’s collections and temporary exhibitions.

Meets with visiting scholars to review permanent collections when appropriate.

Attends special events related to curatorial division activities as assigned.

Supervises departmental interns and volunteers as assigned.

Visits public and private collections as necessary.

Attends meetings, lectures, and exhibitions as assigned.

Maintains organization of departmental files.

Other special projects or departmental duties as assigned.

Senior Membership Manager [National 9/11 Memorial and Museum]

The Senior Membership Manager supervises all Membership staff and collaborates with the EVP of Development to continually create new and unique individual membership campaigns to secure funds to carry out the organization’s mission and vision. This position is responsible for cultivating and implementing a strategic plan for individual donors and membership, as well as executing corresponding fundraising events and managing the direct mail campaign.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead the Individual Giving fundraising team, providing vision and strategic direction, as well as proactively addressing and managing any issues that arise.
Manage the Individual Giving Annual Planning and Budget process and achieve strategic objective and revenue targets.
Continually develop and maintain an Individual Giving program with over 25,000 expected members that delivers strong donor loyalty and builds donor lifetime value.
Identify and develop new opportunities for Individual Giving, in both donor acquisition and donor development.
Liaise closely with internal departments (Operations, IT) to ensure an overall strategically coordinated approach to fundraising.
Oversee relationships with outside vendors (fulfilment, direct marketing) to ensure accurate and timely communications between the organization and donors.
Provide weekly and monthly progress reports to EVP of Development, Deputy Director of Development, and Finance.
Management:

Supervise all Membership staff and set goals for team members and support and provide training and development.
Oversee all RFP processes and oversee the appointment of suppliers to support fundraising.
Oversee all contracts with suppliers for the Individual Giving program
Oversee data processing and fulfillment of membership and donations by vendors.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading an organization’s Individual Membership/Giving program with at least 10,000 members, preferably within a museum environment, with a proven track record of innovative ideas that led to successful campaigns.
Minimum of 5 years of direct supervisory experience.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills as evidenced by a cohesive team and successful fundraising.
Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and the willingness to do whatever it takes to ensure a task is completed in a timely manner.
Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail, with the skills to manage multiple priorities and adhere to tight deadlines.
Ability to think strategically and proactively; skilled at identifying possible issues and taking immediate action to solve issues that arise.
Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and database systems required. Experience with Raiser’s Edge, Drupal, and Gateway strongly preferred.

Exhibitions Coordinator [Asia Society Texas Center]

The Exhibitions Coordinator assists the Director of Exhibitions in all elements of exhibition development, planning, and realization. He or she is responsible for the physical care and arrangements for assigned temporary exhibitions and loans, and for management of tours of exhibitions organized by Asia Society Texas Center (ASTC) as assigned, along with other departmental duties.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate all practical arrangements for each exhibition, including display preparation, design liaison, contract and loan agreement preparation, loan negotiations, condition checking, packing, transport, insurance, couriers, installation, and photography. Manage the care and handling of objects loaned for exhibition, including shipping, condition reporting, and temporary storage.
Provide general curatorial assistance in the planning and organization of exhibitions, including research and logistical support in the preparation of checklists, loan requests, exhibition catalogues, didactic materials, interpretive labels, and other exhibition-related materials. Support exhibitions from inception to installation by assisting in duties including conceptual outline, selection of objects, research, writing, interpretation, implementation, budget development and oversight, and fundraising. Coordinate, assist, and work closely with the curator of each exhibition to develop the object list, confirm loans, edit, and proofread all gallery text and label copy, press releases, and gallery guides when required.
Assist with early planning for touring exhibitions, including: preparing content summaries; seeking and securing tour venues; preparing and negotiating loan agreements and contracts. Liaise closely with all tour venues on the practical arrangements for each allocated exhibition, including: design, loan negotiation and agreements, condition checking, packing, transport, indemnity and insurance, couriers and installation.
Assist with development and implementation of short- and long-range program plans; assist with compilation, implementation, and oversight of exhibition budgets.
Develop and assist with the production of online content and interactives related to the exhibitions. Participate in programs related to ASTC exhibitions including presentations, gallery tours, staff and docent training, and special events.
Field inquiries and conduct tours for special groups and individuals.
Assist with evaluation of proposed exhibitions.
Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive exhibition information.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in art, art history, museum administration, museum studies, or a related field.
At least 3-5 years of experience in museum exhibitions.
Awareness of environmental monitoring guidelines related to the display of art work.
Experience with fine arts insurance.
Ability to plan, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Strong budgeting skills.
Ability to collaborate with staff, supporters, and outside vendors.
Knowledge of standard museum loan and registration practices.
Experience with art handling and knowledge of best practices.
Demonstrated experience with Asian art required, knowledge of an Asian language preferred.
Proven organizational skills, with strong ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks, work independently, and function under pressure.
Strong ability to interact with the public and high-level individuals and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
An understanding of, and an ability to articulate, the accomplishments and goals of an organization like the Asia Society.

This position has responsibility serving as the project manager to bring together museum program activities, including exhibits, education, public programs, collections, exhibitions and library and archives. This position ensures that the museum’s programmatic activities are consistent with the museum’s mission and strategic plans (emphasizes the importance of the public dimension of the museum and high standards of quality, which include the need for sound scholarship, creative approaches, the execution of projects at a professional level, and adherence to professional museum standards and ethics). The Deputy will seek progress and action in the areas of innovation, new venture creation, partnership development and cross departmental collaborations This position oversees annual goals and budgets for all program departments and supervises the program directors and Chief Curator. Provides administrative leadership in the development of projects and works to ensure that the Museum’s multidisciplinary collections, exhibitions and public programs demonstrate the highest quality of scholarship and innovation while providing and outstanding visitor experience and meeting the interests of a diverse audience. This position facilitates the dialogue between program directors and works collaboratively with directors to ensure achievement of the Museum’s mission and financial sustainability goals. This position reports directly to the Museum Director/CEO.
