Curatorial Assistant [The Buffalo Bill Center of the West]

The Plains Indian Museum of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming, is seeking candidates for a Curatorial Assistant position for the Plains Indian Museum. This individual will work with the collections, educational programs and ideas connected to the Plains Indian Museum.This individual will participate in the planning, fabrication and maintenance of exhibits. S/he will research the collection and exhibition themes, write panels, labels and other material and develop and present Plains Indian related educational programming.

Job Requirements
Requirements for the position include strong knowledge of Plains Indian cultures and history, excellent verbal and written communication skills, confident public speaking and the ability to work collaboratively with others. A Bachelor’s degree is required with a preference for a Master’s degree in such disciplines as Art History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, American Indian Studies or a related field The successful candidate will possess strong organization and interpersonal skills and will be able to stand or walk for much of the day and lift at least 20 pounds. Two years of museum work experience or work in an informal educational setting is required. In addition knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and good keyboarding skills are required. Previous exposure to social media and digital outreach are desired.

William and Sarah Ross Soter (Associate) Curator of Photography [Columbus Museum of Art]

The Columbus Museum of Art (Columbus, Ohio) seeks a dynamic, knowledgeable, and highly-motivated individual to lead its photography program. The successful candidate for this endowed William and Sarah Ross Soter (Associate) Curatorship of Photography will be responsible for building, utilizing and advancing the Museum’s collection of historic through contemporary photography with relevant exhibitions, programming, and scholarly publications.

This position offers an important opportunity to work with and build upon the Museum’s historic strength in American and European Modernism and already significant holdings, especially its Photo League collection and works by established and emerging photographers. CMA is actively engaged in becoming a model 21st century museum, which the institution defines as-transformative, active, participatory, and committed to impacting the health and growth of the community.

The ideal candidate should be prepared to create, articulate, and implement a vision for an ongoing photography program. Past work should demonstrate creativity in curatorial approach. This should include developing and presenting exhibitions as well as dynamic ways of working with a collection. A proven talent for developing relationships is paramount—these include living artists with established reputations, emerging and under-recognized mid-career artists as well as a diverse network of art world colleagues. The curator will also be responsible for cultivating the local creative community of artists, collectors, and donors.

Willingness to develop intentional strategies to engage visitors and the wider community.
Desire to work collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary team.

Job Requirements
Qualified candidates will have an MA in art history, art criticism, or similar field of study plus three to five years of experience working in an advanced curatorial capacity with a record of exhibitions, acquisitions, and publications in historic, modern, and/or contemporary photography. Preference will be given to candidates with a compelling body of curatorial projects and strong interpersonal and communications skills.

Collections Manager [The Metropolitan Museum of Art]

The Collections Manager works closely with the AAOA Conservator and the Administrator to oversee and handle all activities in the galleries and storerooms, in addition to planning, managing and scheduling the work of the department technician.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

Organize and manage movement of objects within and in between galleries, storerooms and other museum departments
Organize and undertake a regular and ongoing schedule for gallery maintenance and cleaning of art objects on open display and in closed cases.
Monitor the climate of the galleries/storerooms and work with conservators/scientists/engineers to maintain optimum conditions
Coordinate with conservators for the care for objects in the storerooms and conduct regular condition checks of all work on display in the galleries
Organize, and supervise the maintenance of mounts, bases, and other installation equipment, in addition to occasionally manufacturing simple mounts
Coordinate with curators, conservators and special events personnel in the safeguarding of art during departmental or museum special events in the AAOA galleries
Coordinate with curators and conservators to provide access to the collection for scholarly study purposes
Supervise the technician in the ongoing task of gallery cleanliness and maintenance, and during exhibition and gallery installations
Oversee a regular inventory check of AAOA’s holdings with Registrar and Director’s Office.
Coordinate with the Departmental Administrator in the supervision of the collections management assistant’s work maintaining and updating departmental records in the TMS database, conducting ongoing inventory and maintaining gallery labels.
Prepare MMA loan documents and coordinate with curators, registrars, conservators and administration to identify special requirements for travel and handling
Maintain the storage and inventory of installation-, collection’s emergency-, and cleaning materials for the department
Coordinates with the departmental administrator the maintenance of departmental files for all permanent and temporary exhibitions, collection care, education, photography, and loans

Chief Preparator [Yerba Buena Center for the Art]

In collaboration with Visual Arts team, guest curators, and artists, plan the execution of visual arts exhibitions.
Lead a team of full-time and on-call preparator staff to ensure the safe handling and installation of works of art for temporary exhibition in a timely fashion.
Prepare galleries for installation, including hiring and management of contractors as needed.
Arrange scheduling, technical, material and staffing needs for the installation and de-installation of exhibitions, including working directly with artists to realize commissioned or newly-fabricated works of art.
Recruit, train, and manage performance for a diverse staff of full-time and on-call preparators.
Oversee proper safety training and specifications for YBCA workshop, including power and hand tools.
Oversee visual arts preparation areas, including workshop and art storage spaces; inventory of supplies and materials; and upgrading of gallery-related AV gear and other equipment.
Assume primary responsibility for the daily operation and maintenance of exhibitions.
Work closely with Senior Exhibitions Manager to create expense projections in relation to project needs and budgets.
Work closely with Associate Registrar to receive and return artwork and establish protocols for best art handling practices; supervise construction of crating, pedestals, cases, and other exhibition furniture.
Provide timely and accurate installation and gallery operations information to Senior Exhibitions Manager to help liaison with other Center Departments.
Deploy a variety of techniques to visualize exhibition design, object placement, and furniture design.
Other projects as assigned.
