Visitor Services Manager [National 9/11 Memorial and Museum]

The Visitor Services Manager (VSM) supports the Director of Visitor Services in overseeing and administering the staff, duties and responsibilities of the Visitor Services Department. The primary Manager responsible for ordering, distribution and maintaining inventory for Visitor Service items. The Visitor Service Manager oversees the Visitor Service Supervisors and the Visitor Service Hosts to ensure visitors to the 9/11 Memorial Museum have a safe, educational and beneficial experience. The Visitor Service Manager facilitates an experience that communicates the mission and message of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum. The Visitor Services Manager reports to the Director of Visitor Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Support the Director of Visitor Services in administering the overall operation of the Visitor Service department.
Open the Museum, preparation of cash drawers.
Close the Museum, closing out cash drawers and preparing daily deposits.
Accurately handle payment management including cash, credit cards, and traveler’s checks.
Verify funds received at the Information desk and balances cash safes.
Act as primary on-site administrative supervisor for all Visitor Services operational activities.
Order appropriate levels of stock.
Track Museum collateral usage and reporting order triggering points in a timely manner, to the Director of Visitor Service or other appropriate staff.
Distribute and track Visitor Service items: Uniforms, Umbrellas, Stanchions, EAP packs, etc.
Identify and report shortages in inventory.
Coordinate the movement of inventory from storage during uniform changeover between seasons.
Track all Visitor Service property.
Troubleshoot any problems with attendance.
Distribute and conduct Quarterly Visitor Services Host evaluations.
Supervise and manage all day-to-day Visitor Services Supervisors and Hosts activities on the 9/11 Memorial.
Cover for Visitor Services Supervisor personnel in case of absence and during regular breaks.
Maintain daily oversight and verification of schedule for all Visitor Services staff and volunteers stationed on and around the 9/11 Memorial Museum.
Assist the Director of Visitor Services in developing on-going staff development programs for the Visitor Services, including incorporating appropriate background material in coordination with Museum Department staff.
Assemble and analyze relevant data. Assist the Director of Visitor Services in preparing reports detailing Visitor Services activities to the EVP of Operations and other 9/11 Memorial Museum management.
Ensure all Visitor Services staff maintain excellent visitor service standards and adhere to 9/11 Memorial Museum policies, systems, and procedures.
Manage and support, along with VS Supervisors, the Visitor Services Volunteers.
Handle visitor concerns, comments, and complaints that cannot be settled at the supervisory level. Work alongside Admissions Manager in responding to patron’s complaints regarding any ticket or admissions issues.
Write Visitor Service incident reports for documentation and discipline purposes when necessary.
Work with the Director of Visitor Services to develop, maintain, and update a departmental log with a record of all incident reports.
Follow the protocols for progressive discipline when writing up supervisors and host infractions.
Promote a healthy work environment for all Visitor Services Hosts.
Job Requirements
Position requires at least a Bachelor’s degree.
Public speaking with a preference for teaching experience.
A minimum of two years’ equivalent management experience.
Customer service experience at middle management level.
Previous visitor services (at a similar institution), front-of-house theater management or production management experience required.
Project management experience preferred.
Ability to recognize the importance of responsibility, authority and accountability.
A willingness to work non-traditional hours and weekends, think independently, take initiative, and meet deadlines.
Strong written and oral communication skills including writing and editing employee manuals. Excellent attention to detail, exceedingly well-organized, conflict resolution ability, leadership, team-building and motivational skills, and a professional and flexible manner.
Ability to interact well with a wide range of people and personalities of all levels within and outside the Memorial & Museum. Experience with different cultures and foreign language are preferred.
Must adhere to a policy of strict confidentiality in terms of information regarding 9/11 victims, bid documents, security and life safety incidents, and labor relations.

The Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow [RISD Museum]

The Museum of Art, Rhode Island School of Design is pleased to announce a fellowship funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for an outstanding junior scholar who wishes to pursue a curatorial career. The Mellon Fellow will be fully integrated into the Museum’s Department of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. The Fellow will have access to the museum collections and research libraries in the region and will enjoy all the professional privileges of the museum’s staff. The Fellow will be expected to participate in strengthening the Museum’s engagement with the academic curricula at Brown University and RISD.

Core Activities
Become familiar with the collection’s 24,000 works on paper and undertake research in area of expertise. Supervise the Museum’s active study room for prints, drawings, and photographs. Assist with departmental exhibitions, catalogue new acquisitions, give regular presentations to classes and gallery talks, answer queries about the collection, and interact with scholars, students and the public on matters concerning the collection. Work with the two department curators to help develop collaboration with faculty at RISD and Brown University to encourage greater use of the collection in classes and individual study. In collaboration with a faculty member from Brown and/or RISD, propose an exhibition and publication to be presented in the third year. Travel with the department’s curators to explore potential acquisitions, and to attend scholarly conferences and relevant exhibitions. Assist with management of day to day departmental activities as assigned.

Terms
The Andrew W. Mellon Curatorial Fellow is a three-year fellowship. The Fellow receives a competitive annual salary plus benefits and travel and research funds.

Job Description

The Education Manager is responsible for leading the Museum’s initiatives in educational experiences in history, culture and science, including STEM education. Responsibilities include the conceptualization, implementation, promotion and evaluation of all Museum education programming and services for children and adults, both in-house and through outreach to support the museum’s mission. This position is also responsible for the overall development and implementation of the Museum’s interpretation and visitor resources program, working collaboratively across departments to enhance the visitor experience and promote self-directed learning throughout the Putnam.

The Education Manager will possess excellent leadership, supervisory, planning, and organization skills. Knowledge of current curriculum initiatives including Core Curriculum and the Next Generation Science Standards as well as the maker movement. Team building skills with a collaborative management style, ability to assess and coach in a teaching environment. Creative, conceptual and analytical thinker. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree. 5+ years experience working in informal education, public education or related field. The Deputy Director, Collections, Research & Exhibitions (Deputy Director) is a new position at the Corning Museum of Glass, reporting to and serving as a strong administrative and creative partner to the Executive Director, who will be assuming the duties of President. Reporting to the Deputy Director will be 8 departments including education, conservation, media, library, digital, collections & exhibitions and studio glass. CMoG includes the 167,000 s.f. Museum, the Rakow Research Library and The Studio, a hands-on glassmaking facility. In March 2015 a new wing will open with a 26,000 s.f. gallery for contemporary art in glass and a 500-seat amphitheater. The Museum will encompass over 325,000 s.f., with 96,000 s.f. of exhibition space. Education programs embrace the art and science of glass. CMoG welcomes approximately 400,000 visitors a year. CMoG has a budget of $50 million, full-time staff of 150, and 17 trustees. Description:
Busy downtown Boston museum, historic site and meeting place seeks energetic and enthusiastic professional to positively promote Old South Meeting House, its exhibits and programs to tourist and local audiences, and develop, market and manage a busy schedule of facility rentals, including wedding ceremonies, corporate events and programs with non-profit organizations. This key position works as part of a small professional staff to develop, implement, evaluate and strengthen all marketing and publicity initiatives in alignment with museum’s mission and strategic goals.
Responsibilities include developing comprehensive publicity and marketing plans and strategies to advance awareness of the museum and its programs; building and cultivating media contacts; coordinating and overseeing all marketing materials and communications both on-line and print; compiling and coordinating market research; developing event rentals as a significant source of earned income, and directing entire process of facility rental from first contact to post-event wrap up; developing strong relationships and strategic partnerships with other organizations to increase museum visibility and fund operations. This is a salaried full time position requiring some evening and occasional weekend hours as needed.
