Manager of Exhibitions and Gallery Education [New Art Center in Newton]

Part-time position available for Manager of Exhibitions and Gallery Education for a non-profit art school and gallery. Seeking an organized self-starter, excited to collaborate with a team of curatorial and studio art education staff to connect audiences with art. The position focuses on managing contemporary visual art exhibition registration and interpretation.

Duties include:

  • preparing written materials and other interpretation strategies to engage audiences in the Center’s exhibitions and related programs.
  • providing security for art works on display;
  • registering artwork;
  • preparing checklists;
  • creating and giving gallery tours, including hands-on projects;
  • visitor interaction and engagement;

Most Saturdays (except summer) and occasional evenings will be required.
Qualifications:
Must have 1-2 years’ experience with exhibitions and/or gallery education. Excellent written and spoken communication skills. Bachelor’s degree required in Arts Administration, Studio Art, Arts Education, Art History or the equivalent. Familiarity with Visual Thinking Strategies a plus. Basic computer skills such as Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Apps required; Adobe Creative Suite a plus. Experience managing interns a strong plus. Ability to manage and prioritize a range of projects while supporting the organization’s unique mission and vision for connecting the local community with the wider art world are central to this position.

Position Title: Manager of Science Education, Brooklyn Children’s Museum

Position Description: Brooklyn Children’s Museum is seeking to hire a full-time Manager of Science Education to lead science initiatives for the Museum. As part of a team of education managers, the Manager of Science Education will collaborate on shaping programs for school, afterschool, and the general public., This individual will supervise a staff of science educators and live-animal maintainers; develop, implement, and evaluate programs; and have overall responsibility for the Museum’s natural science areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Serve as an active member of the science education team and larger Brooklyn Children’s Museum education staff to plan, deliver, and evaluate inquiry-based programs that serve school groups, families, and after school students.;Plan programs that utilize the Live Animal Collection, Greenhouse and Garden, permanent and visiting science exhibits, and the Natural History Collection of approximately 17,000 specimens.; Help develop programs for science-themed special events and festivals, community outreach events, school partnerships, and professional development workshops.;Recruit, train, mentor and evaluate the team of Science Educators, Animal Maintainers and interns.; Supervise staff in caring for the Museum’s live collection of reptiles, amphibians, aquaria, invertebrates and birds; supervise the Live Animal Coordinator’s maintenance of records, permits, licenses, equipment and supplies; ensure appropriate training of all education staff in handling and presentation of animals to the public.; Supervise horticulture in the Con Edison Greenhouse and Garden, including plant acquisition, propagation, and pest control, and the design of seasonal plantings, themed beds, and interpretive signage; recruit and train Garden Docent volunteers.; Collaborate with the Exhibits and Collections departments to design, prototype, and evaluate new science exhibits and improve the Museum’s permanent science exhibits.; Prepare, track and maintain budgets for living collections and science programs.; Participate in relevant professional activities; maintain awareness of current and best practices pertaining to science education, live animal collections, and horticulture.; Establish and maintain community partnerships; represent BCM in the media and at other professional events as needed.; Participate in science grant proposal development, implementation and reporting.;Serve as an active member of the team of Education Managers.; Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: BS, MS preferred, in science or in education with strong science experience; prior work in a museum setting is preferable.; Demonstrated ability to work with children, including children under 6.; Demonstrated supervisory experience and excellent communication skills.; Ability to work weekends, evenings and holidays as needed.; Experience with horticulture and/or live animal husbandry strongly preferred.

Salary: $40,000-45,000 depending on experience

Director of Education [Elkhorn Valley Museum]

The Elkhorn Valley Museum (historical museum) in Norfolk, NE seeks a full-time Director of Education who will be responsible for museum programs, activities, tours, and exhibits. This position reports to the Executive Director. This museum is home to a large Johnny Carson exhibit as Norfolk is Johnny’s home town. The museum serves 22 counties in rural northeast Nebraska, where Interstates are far but history is near at heart. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, and a good communicator. Must be customer-service oriented. Experience in public speaking, designing and creating museum exhibits/programs, and teaching children a plus. Development Coordinator [deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum]

Reports to: Deputy Director for External Affairs/Interim Director of Development

Status: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt, Benefits Eligible

The Development Coordinator is an integral member of deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum’s fundraising efforts. Working closely with the Deputy Director for External Affairs and the Museum’s Development team, the Development Coordinator is responsible for providing support for all of deCordova’s fundraising efforts.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

 Manage, maintain, and update the Raiser’s Edge donor database;

 Process, track, and file all philanthropic gifts;

 Create timely and accurate tax-acknowledgement letters and reminders for all gifts and pledges;

 Generate financial reports for External Affairs and senior staff as well as for

reconciliation with Finance Department;

 Coordinate and support committee meetings, including Development Planning and

Advisory Committees, Overseer Council Committee, Benefit Committee, and other

committees as assigned. Support includes preparing meeting agendas, minutes,

packets, and correspondence. Generates and distributes minutes in a timely way;

 Provide excellent customer service to donors by phone, written correspondence, and in-person;

 Assist with prospect research as needed;

 Manage and execute VIP exhibition opening receptions and other donor

cultivation/stewardship events throughout the year in conjunction with the Head of

Special Events & Rentals;

 Work closely with the Development Program Manager to plan and execute the Annual

Benefit and Auction, including a leadership role in the live and silent auctions, as

applicable. Process and acknowledge tickets/tables and sponsorships. Help seek

sponsors/in-kind donors to the event. Provide general overall event support;

 Other projects and duties as assigned related to the operations of the development

department.

Skills Utilized:

 Use of Raiser’s Edge database including data entry, query building, and reports;

 Coordinating and providing support to special events functions;

 Attention to detail and appreciation of the importance of accurate, usable data;

 Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve;

UMFA Coordinator of Educator Programs [Utah Museum of Fine Arts]

As a member of the Department of Education and Engagement at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, the Coordinator of Educator Programs develops resources and manages programs to engage and support K-12 Educators in the region and statewide. This position also serves as a liaison between the UMFA and educators. This is a .8 FTE position working an average of 32 hours/week.

Responsibilities
Essential Functions
1. Develop Educator Resources and Programs 40%
• Develop teacher resources to parallel curricula of K-12 outreach and tour programs, including lesson plans, teacher’s guides, etc.
• Work with art objects to develop resource kits that include hands-on components and that examine art objects within thematic frameworks.
• Develop classroom presentations to be delivered by UMFA educators.
• Maintain organization of department’s education collection of art objects.
• Collaborate closely with Assistant Curator of Education for Public School Programs and Statewide Outreach on related programs.
2. Develop and Manage Events for Educators 20%
• Manage on-site teacher programs that are eligible for teacher professional development credits.
• Develop content and format for educator events and trainings, including resource kits and pedagogical support materials. Communicate with artists, curators, and other partners in the development of these events. Arrange for presenters, plan all aspects of events.
3. Deliver Trainings and Presentations 25%
• Deliver in-museum and off-site trainings for educators (K-12, docents, pre-service teachers, etc.) regarding object-based learning, arts integration, UMFA exhibitions, and UMFA teacher resources.
• Deliver occasional classroom presentations to students using UMFA resources to assess those resources and to assist department efforts.
• Pursue opportunities to deliver these presentations in schools; schedule and prepare for visits.
• Occasional travel will be required, including rare overnights.
4. Report and Communicate about Programs 5%
• Communicate with State Office of Education to communicate about programs and to arrange for awarding of professional development credits to K-12 educators; maintain records.
• Maintain database of all participants; compile data for reports.
5. Partner with University Departments and K-12 Educators 5%
• Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with K-12 educators.
• Facilitate collaborations with University of Utah Departments of Education, Art Education, and others to engage and provide resources for pre-service teachers.
6. Other Duties 5%
• Represents the Department of Education and Engagement on exhibition planning teams; plans and executes exhibition-related educational programming as assigned.
• Supports Education and Engagement programs, including docent trainings, university programs, and family events.
• Collaborates across Museum departments to support collective efforts.
• Oversees annual budget for main duties under the supervision of the Director of Education and Engagement.

Minimum Qualifications
Three years experience as a classroom assistant in a related academic area, or equivalency; knowledge and understanding of a variety of teaching methods in order to adjust activities/training session to include participants of different ages; a thorough knowledge of related academic subjects in order to participate in developing classroom activities/programs; and demonstrated knowledge of teaching methods and communication skills to conduct educational activities and/or training sessions in a clear and concise manner required. Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills are also required.

Preferences
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Art, Art History, Anthropology, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Experience teaching and/or working with K-12 teachers.
• Knowledge of the Utah State Core Curriculum.
• Knowledge of relevant pedagogical trends, i.e. cross-disciplinary, dialogical, and object-based learning.
• Experience writing curricula and developing educational programs.
• Art knowledge and familiarity, facility in discussing art objects and exhibitions.
