Public Programs Manager [The Wolfsonian]

The Wolfsonian­ at Florida International University, a museum and research
center located in the heart of historic south Miami Beach, seeks a Public
Programs Manager to join its Education team. The Wolfsonian uses objects to
reveal the persuasive power of art and design, to explore what it means to
be modern, and to tell stories of social, historical, and technological
changes that have transformed our world. It encourages people to see the
world in new ways and to learn how objects from the past shape the present
and influence the future. The collection focuses on North American and
European decorative, propaganda, and fine arts of the 1885­1945 period. (

The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, organized individual with a
passion for modern art, design and architecture; demonstrated ability to

Works with the supervision of the Assistant Director for Education and
Public Programs, the Public Programs Manager:****

**·        **Manages details of public programs, including organizational
aspects related to business office procedures (travel, payment);
development of related collateral and press materials; Creates and oversees
program budgets; and develops materials for fundraising.****

**·        **Works collaboratively with Assistant Director for Education
and Public Programs, curatorial staff and other museum staff; maintain
extensive contact with the general public, FIU community, and scholars and
professionals of design, architecture, art, art history, and fields related
to The Wolfsonian collection to formulate public programs.****

**·        **Arranges and provides tours for the general public, program
partners, featured guests, and others on a regular basis. Works with
supervisor to train Wolfsonian staff to conduct guided tours of temporary
and permanent exhibitions.****

**·        **Participates in overall program development with other staff
of other division¹s through bi-weekly program meetings.****

**·        **Participates in planning interpretation for improving
visitor¹s experience of the museum and its collection, and evaluating
strategies implemented in collaboration with education and curatorial
department staff.****

**·        **Stays current with educational practices and scholarship
through a network of colleagues in the field, other disciplines, and
literature reviews; represents the museum at public forums, including
public talks and other presentations.****

**·        **Prepares, conducts, and compiles audience survey reports for
public programs using available software such as Survey Monkey.****

**·        **Maintains inventory of audio-visual archives; works with
website coordinator to make public program content available through the
museum website and through FIU and other content providers.****

**·        **Interprets State, University and Board of Governors policies
to ensure compliance. Recommend changes in policies and procedures to the
Assistant Director for Education and to the Museum Director.****

*Minimum Requirements*: Master’s degree in an appropriate area of
specialization and two years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor’s
degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of
appropriate experience****

*Specific training/licensure/

certification: *Master¹s degree in appropriate
area of specialization (Art, Design, or Architectural History; American or
European Studies; History; Museum Education, or related field), with at
least two years of related program experience; or a bachelor¹s degree in
the same and four years of related program experience. Knowledge of art,
design, and architectural history, experience with public program
implementation, exceptional administrative and organizational skills,
computer literate with experience in web-based applications and social
networking, and strong interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of
Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with Drupal is
desirable.
*Work Schedule:*  Monday­Friday – 8:30 am­5pm; oversee public programs

Manager of Youth Programs [The Wolfsonian at Florida International University]

MANAGER OF YOUTH PROGRAMS
Position Number 42035
Description:
Oversees the Museum Education programs for K-12 audiences. Acts as
primary liaison to Miami-Dade County Public Schools and local private
schools. Develops programmatic collaborations and formal partnerships
with schools and community organizations. Develops, implements, and
evaluates youth and youth-based programs with an orientation towards all
segments of the Miami-Dade Community, including weekend arts workshops.
Works with the education and curatorial staff to develop programs and
interpretative materials for all museum visitors in relation to
permanent and temporary exhibitions, including lectures, films, tours,
workshops, exhibition enhancements, and online materials. Works with
interpretative team to plan and implement the reinterpretation and
re-installation of the permanent collection.
Develops and implements professional development workshops for public
and private school teachers across disciplines. Works with Assistant
Director to develop online and in-gallery materials that utilize digital
media learning and social networking strategies. Interprets existing
state, University and BOT policies to ensure compliance. Recommends
changes in policies and procedures to Director. Maintains extensive
contact with students, administrators, donors, corporate members, and
the general public.

Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in an appropriate area of
specialization; or a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of
specialization and two years of appropriate experience.   Desired
Qualifications M.A. preferred, background in art history, American
studies, and/or education; 3-5 years professional museum experience,
including working with K-12 students, teachers and administrators;
strong organizational skills; strong writing and oral communication
skills; administrative and managerial experience also required. The
successful candidate will have sound knowledge of educational and
developmental theory, teaching experience, and will be able to work well
in a small but ambitious team of museum professionals.
