First SOTA Meeting of the Semester

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for our first SOTA meeting of the semester! We were lucky to hear from Dr. Sarah McKinnon, OTD, OTR/L, BCPR, MPA, AOTPAC Board of Directors. We learned about how the legislative process works in both houses of Congress, how American Occupational Therapy Political Action Committee (AOTPAC) advocates on all levels of government, and resources for us as students to advocate for our profession and to stay educated on current issues. How are you advocating for the OT profession?

To share a few resources to help in your own OT advocacy:

Attached are SOTA announcement slides and Dr. McKinnon’s presentation. Check them out to keep up to date on all of our projects and resources. Zoom recording is posted on BOX: https://tufts.box.com/s/0mftp8z6ffpvflibf045ovn4j1t6uevi.

A note from Dr. McKinnon:

Dear future OT colleagues,

It was fabulous to join your group last night to share the steps of the legislative process, current legislative priorities related to OT, and the importance of advocacy. This was the largest SOTA group meeting to date!

Here are some follow up resources –

  1. Presentation – If interested in the slides for reference, they are attached.
  2. Favorite websites – As noted in the presentation, the best way to stay informed is through www.aota.org/takeaction and my favorite and most recent, https://cqrcengage.com/aota/Virtual-Hill-Week
  3. Staying connected – Please keep me in mind as a resource and email me at anytime.  Please consider joining in an OT Boston Networking event in October (more info here: https://forms.gle/Fo3V7aXdiUwZkmsbA)

I hope to talk to you soon!

-Sarah
