April 4: “Defending Eden” Film Screening

When: Wednesday, April 4th at 7:00pm

Join the producer of Prehensile Productions, as we screen the trailer and other clips from the in-production film, Defending Eden. She will talk about the linked issues of filmmaking, environmental impact and preservation of indigenous cultures. They welcome student feedback on the directions the film should take during its development. Sponsored by CMS, ENVS, and the Department of Anthropology.

Dr. Susan Tierney is Managing Principal at Analysis Group, a firm providing economic, financial, and business strategy consulting services. She is an expert on energy policy and economics, specializing in the electric and gas industries, and has consulted across sectors on energy markets, economic and environmental regulation and strategy, and energy facility projects.  A former Assistant Secretary for Policy at the U.S. Department of Energy, Massachusetts Environmental Secretary, and a state public utility commissioner, she is a member of the Bipartisan Policy Center’s energy project and the Secretary of Energy’s Advisory Board. She has also been appointed to the National Petroleum Council and a director of the Clean Air Task Force, and she is a co-lead author of the energy chapter of the upcoming National Climate Assessment. Dr. Tierney has a Ph.D. and M.A. in regional planning and public policy from Cornell University, and a B.A. from Scripps College.

We are pleased to announce the 3rd annual student-organized WSSS Interdisciplinary Water Symposium!

The theme for this year’s symposium is The Glass Half Full: Valuing Water in the 21st Century. Students, academics, and professionals in the greater Boston area and across the nation from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors will join us to explore the various complex and interlinking factors of valuing water throughout developed and developing nations.This year the WSSS Symposium is organized by the Tufts University Water: Systems, Science, and Society program in collaboration with the Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Please join us for a day of interesting panels, lively conversation, and networking with prominent water experts across the nation.

For Tufts and UMass students, admission to the 3rd Annual Water Symposium on Friday, April 27th is now FREE.  This includes food throughout the day and a networking reception at the end.
