Waste Reduction Program Manager (Cambridge, MA)

Under the supervision of the Director of Recycling, educate and encourage participants on curbside composting through educational materials, neighborhood info sessions, email, phone calls and in person. Coordinate procurement, delivery and distribution of curbside/kitchen containers and compostable bags door to door with contractors, city staff, or community events. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, related field or equivalent combination of education, experience and training. Three years of professional work with relevant community environmental experience that involved communications and planning, including supervising. Massachusetts Driver’s License Class D required. Excellent interpersonal, written and public speaking skills. Quick learner, excellent organization skills, diligent follow-up, record-keeping, and attention to detail. Sustainability Action Plan Coordinator, Western Washington University (Bellingham, WA)

Western’s Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) is intended to become the University’s guiding document for the incorporation of sustainable principles and practices into the broad areas of academics, operations, outreach, and administration.  The SAP will consist of several chapters related to the different areas of sustainability activity on Western’s campus including Western curricula, student life, campus engagement, management of resources and operations, facilities planning and design, research activities, community relations, business and finance, the extra-curricular life of Western and others.  Each chapter will contain content such as background information, long term goals, potential objectives and strategies, prioritized action steps relative to resource need, and key performance indicators.

With oversight from the Sustainability Manager, the SAP Coordinator will act as the primary organizing position and editor for the creation of Western’s Sustainability Action Plan.  This will be achieved through several mechanisms including meeting facilitation, public input, research, writing, and presentation.  This position will form a working relationship with Western’s Sustainability Advisory Committee (SAC), the body charged with completion of the SAP.  The SAP Coordinator will usher the SAP through the necessary approvals, aligning the document to Western’s mission and strategic plan.
