Garbage to Garden, founded in Portland, ME in 2012, provides residential and commercial curbside composting service and zero-waste event services throughout the greater Boston area and Southern Maine.

As the nation’s most subscribed to curbside composting service, we have been recognized nationally for our efforts in reducing food waste and private companies and municipalities from across the US reach out to us weekly to learn from what we are doing.

Our service is simple, participants receive a 6-gallon bucket to fill with compostable materials.

They place the bucket on the curb each week on trash day, and we collect it and swap it out with a clean bucket and, if requested, a bag of finished soil.

In August 2016, Garbage to Garden opened a satellite operation in Massachusetts. We are hiring a community outreach coordinator to help build the movement in the greater Boston area.

This individual will report directly to the Community Outreach Director and will be responsible for identifying promotional opportunities, implementing local door-to-door and tabling promotional efforts, and establishing relationships with retail partners and volunteer organizations.

For the right candidate there will be opportunities for additional work and responsibilities as the operation grows.

Background Information
Nelson\Nygaard Consulting Associates is seeking a highly organized, independent, and motivated junior transportation planner (Associate I) for its Boston office to primarily support the firm’s nationally recognized practice in multimodal planning for livable communities.

Responsibilities
Junior Associate responsibilities primarily focus on planning for municipalities, agencies, universities and private clients and will likely include research, data collection, spreadsheet analysis, mapping, writing and editing reports, development of outreach materials, and potentially some minor business development tasks. Though a significant part of the work will come from projects in the Greater Boston area, there will be numerous opportunities for the candidate to contribute to Nelson\Nygaard projects across the United States. Candidates must be willing to travel and must have a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications
In preferential order, the ideal candidate would be someone who (1) holds a master’s degree in planning or equivalent degree with a specialization in transportation planning and 0-2 years of relevant experience or (2) has a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 1-3 years of experience in transportation planning. Other relevant degrees include transportation engineering, transportation operations, urban/city/regional planning, urban design, and landscape architecture. Above all, we are looking for someone who has a passion for sustainable transportation planning, has great analytical skills, and is interested in making communities better for our clients and their constituents.

Potential candidates must demonstrate excellent skills in writing, data analysis, oral presentation, and problem solving. The candidate must be able to demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Additional experience with graphics (Illustrator, InDesign, SketchUp), GIS, modeling (Synchro) or database analysis will be considered favorably. Potential candidates may be asked to complete a skills assessment and demonstrate their writing and analytical skills.
