Campaign and Advocacy Fellows, ELM Action Fund 2018 (Massachusetts)

The ELM Action Fund is looking for students and recent graduates to be part of our Summer/Fall Campaign and Advocacy Fellows program. Fellows help elect environmental champions, advance our policy agenda and build the power of the environmental community in Massachusetts.  The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) Action Fund is a 501c4 organization and the state affiliate of the League of Conservation Voters.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support ELM Action Fund’s advocacy and legislative work
  • Play a key role in helping to elect environmental champions to state and local office, through research, door knocking, phone calling and data capturing/entry.
  • Mobilize environmental activists to participate in our campaign activities and advocacy work
  • Assist with the ELM Action Fund’s endorsement process for state and local candidates

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be willing to engage diverse constituencies around our issues and campaigns
  • Strong social media and online engagement skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Flexibility to work some nights and weekends
  • Commitment to environmental advocacy
  • Willingness to learn and work cooperatively with staff and other fellows

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED

  • Experience working on, volunteering for or running a political campaign or an issues advocacy campaign.
  • Experience with VAN/Votebuilder or other database systems
  • Ability to travel throughout Massachusetts

DATES & COMPENSATION

We are accepting fellows who are able to work until at least November 15th. Fellows are eligible for a stipend and reimbursement will also be provided for travel expenses.

Environment America is hiring seniors for its two year fellowship program. Any seniors interested in political organizing or advocacy should be especially interested.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Build powerful coalitions: Reach out to small business owners, farmers, public health officials and others to demonstrate support for our policy goals
Earn traditional media and social media attention: Organize news conferences and write opinion pieces. Build a following on Facebook and Twitter for your campaigns
Lobby elected officials: Coordinate strategy with a champion in Congress. Make a convincing case to a legislator who is undecided on a particular vote. Work the “inside game” to complement our outside field operation, where most of our power is derived
Research and write reports: Catalogue and analyze sources of carbon pollution in the U.S. Detail the success of the Clean Water Act in our reports. Help influence public debate and earn media attention for our cause
Identify and cultivate donors: Reach out to foundations and major donors and ask them to fund our work to tackle global warming, promote clean energy, and protect our most spectacular natural areas
Run a grassroots campaign office each summer during your fellowship: Hire and manage a staff of 20 canvassers. Raise money, build our organization and membership,  and help win one of our key campaigns
PAY & BENEFITS
The target annual compensation for this position is $27,000 in the first year. Environment America offers a competitive benefits package. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement. Positions start in August 2019. Visit our website for our immediate openings.

Green Corps is looking for college graduates who are ready to take on the biggest environmental challenges of our day.

Our year-long program puts you in an intensive classroom training with people like Bill McKibben and other guest speakers. Then, you move to hands-on experience working with groups like Oceana, Corporate Accountability, The Wilderness Society, and Mighty Earth to fight climate change, protect public lands and reform our food system. And when you graduate we will help you find a career with one for the nation’s leading environmental and social change groups.

The planet needs all the help it can get, especially now with so many environmental protections under attack. To win now and build a strong foundation for lasting progress, we need people who know how to organize: to run organizations and campaigns that will inspire the support and action we need to save our planet.
