Under the supervision of the Principal Biologist, the GIS Specialist will develop workflows and processes, and develop solutions for integration, transformation and deliverables that meet the needs of the client and project. This role requires demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and recommend or make decisions regarding the best path for data development and processing. This will include working with, and meeting with, internal teams and with the client to define data needs, project requirements, required outputs, or to develop applications. Project work will involve process improvement, quality control, data creation from spatial and tabular source, conversion, migration, and maintenance. The candidate must be able to coordinate, plan, and support simultaneous tasks and GIS projects; query data; prepare and deliver reports to project managers and others; use geospatial data in the creation and production of GIS maps and data; and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. In addition, the candidate will gather, analyze and integrate spatial data from staff and determine how the information can be displayed using GIS and Web applications with mobile capabilities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Regional GIS Field Technician, MassGIS (Boston, MA)

MassGIS is presently maintaining and continuing to develop the statewide GIS mapping and data needed to support the Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911) emergency response system. Some address location mapping can only be completed correctly by people working in the field. 

MassGIS seeks a GIS Field Technician. The Technician will work in and must live in the metrowest region, ideally in a community west of I-495. Applicants for this position must have their own reliablecar that can be used to conduct the field work duties described below. The hourly rate is $30; however, the fee (typically about 14%) for the state’s contracting company and job-related automobile expenses are included in that rate. As needed and appropriate, you will also be expected to use your own cell phone to call your MassGIS supervisor.

Sustainability Communication Specialist, MIT Office of Sustainability (Cambridge, MA)

The Sustainability Communication Specialist at the MIT Office of Sustainability (MITOS) will serve as a communications strategist, responsible for executing projects and initiatives that align with strategic priorities of the office.  Will execute impactful communication strategies that expand MITOS’ reach across the MIT campus and with its regional and global communities.  Responsibilities include developing and managing campus-wide campaign on sustainability initiatives in an effort to broadly communicate MIT’s sustainability commitment and efforts; managing integrated print and digital strategy across platforms (i.e., website, social media, newsletters/brochures, reports, news articles); overseeing design and maintenance of MITOS websites; leading the creation of new digital and print materials; managing contracts with vendors/partners; managing outreach initiatives that advance the objectives of MITOS; building partnerships with other communications and marketing stakeholders across MIT; managing press and media relations in collaboration with MIT’s media relations team; overseeing communications budget; reviewing and analyze metrics; supporting other team members as needed; leveraging local/regional/global partnerships to create awareness of MITOS’ work; and assisting with strategy, logistics, and preparations for events/meetings/conferences.

Green Interns Program, United States EPA (Various locations)

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has launched the new Green Interns Program. Recent graduates can apply for this year-long rotational program.

The Green Interns Program promotes career development within the civil service and introduces recent graduates to employment at the EPA. The program offers a clear path to potential federal careers, provides access to training and career development, and may fill mission-critical occupations with qualified candidates. The EPA is hiring recent graduates for positions in Washington D.C. and nationwide.

Green Interns will have access to:

-40 hours of formal, interactive training

Demonstrated performers may be offered potential term (1–4 years) or permanent positions with the EPA upon the conclusion of the internship.
