Rocky Mountain Institute, Summer 2021 Internship Program (Multiple Locations)

Rocky Mountain Institute offers an active, well-established internship program! Every summer our offices welcome a group of students to put their knowledge to work on various projects and energy related initiatives across the institue. We look for exceptional people with a variety of academic backgrounds from colleges and universities around the world.

Project areas include: Carbon-Free Electricity, Carbon-Free Buildings, Carbon-Free Mobility, Climate-Aligned Industries, Climate Intelligence, Breakthrough Technologies, Energy Transition Academy, Urban Transformation, China, India, US or Developing Economies. 2021 Switzer Fellowships (New England and California)

Switzer Fellowships are given to top graduate students in New England and California who demonstrate outstanding leadership potential, and who are committed to a career in environmental improvement.

The Switzer Fellowship includes:

  • A one-year $15,000 unrestricted cash award;
  • Two multi-day leadership training and cohort-building retreats;
  • Access to other Robert and Patricia Switzer Foundation grant programs and career support; and
  • Engagement with the Switzer Network, an active community of nearly 700 environmental leaders in the U.S. and around the world.

Research Associate, Yale Center for Biodiversity and Global Change – Map of Life (New Haven, CT)

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Research Associate will work with a team of researchers and informaticians to build, manage, and analyze biodiversity datasets. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining rigorous data standards and retaining the scientific integrities of data being uploaded to the Map of Life database. The candidate will generate new data products, prepare and upload data from different sources, liaise with data partners and experts, and work with the data mobilization team to oversee the digitization of spatial biodiversity information. They will work closely with the other team members to make sure that data products are being delivered in a timely and efficient manner. They will document procedures and communicate progress in an organized and logical manner.

GIS Analyst, Cape Cod Commission (Barnstable Village, MA)

The Cape Cod Commission is looking for a GIS Analyst candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in geography, computer science, planning or related field and at least 2 years of experience in GIS computer applications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Applicants must have strong data and information management skills, analytical capabilities, awareness of proper cartographic design, and the ability to effectively communicate with project managers while working with and satisfying the needs of multiple clients.

Candidates are required to have good working knowledge of ESRI’s ArcGIS platform, Microsoft Office, and Microsoft SQL. Experience with remote sensing, statistical analysis, python scripting and/or web programming would be a plus.

Analytics Department Intern, Environmental Health and Engineering (Newton, MA)

The analytics department at Environmental Health & Engineering (EH&E) is looking for an intern for 10 to 20 hours per week. The intern will support data processing, and design and deployment of dashboards for multiple environmental health projects. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Tableau and R, and have experience building interactive visualizations. Hourly compensation rates will be based on level of experience.
