Hi everyone – my name is Susan Ruzzo, and I live in Melrose, Massachusetts. I’m the proud mom of a kind and curious 21-year-old named Patrick, who is on the autism spectrum. Since he was just three years old, Patrick has been attending a full-time day program at the New England Center for Children in Southborough. This July, Patrick will be aging out of the program as he turns 22.
As we transition into this new chapter, my husband and I are looking for a caring, responsible individual — ideally a student or recent graduate in special education — who is interested in working with young adults on the autism spectrum this summer (and possibly beyond).
What we’re looking for:
- Someone with a background or experience in special education or working with individuals with autism.
- Availability for 4 to 16 hours per week — we are very flexible with scheduling.
- Willingness to assist with community outings, recreational activities, and possibly volunteer job coaching.
- Patience, compassion, and a sense of fun!
About Patrick:
- Nonverbal but communicates well using his iPad and sign language.
- Mild-mannered, quiet, and very sweet.
- Enjoys music, swimming, reading, gymnastics, bike riding, rollerblading, trampoline parks, and more!
If you or someone you know might be a great fit, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d love to connect and share more about this opportunity.

Thank you for helping us make this transition a joyful and enriching one for Patrick!
