Working with the Curator, the candidate will be responsible for shaping and developing the Contemporary Art collection and exhibition programs. The candidate will research and interpret the Museum’s collection of Contemporary Art, with its especial strength in German and American Art. Supervises Research Assistant, Interns and Volunteers.

DUTIES, WORK PERFORMED:

In association with the Curator, develop and manage Contemporary Art special exhibitions including the Museum’s Currents exhibitions and New Media Series program.
Interpret and provide information on the Contemporary Art collection including cataloging and documenting of objects, publication, lectures and docent training.
Assist with the growth of the Contemporary Art collection across a range of media, enhancing its quality by proposed acquisitions and deaccessions.
Develop and supervise Contemporary Art Society in consultation with Curator.
Assist in ongoing installation of Contemporary Art collection.
Work with conservators and registrars to assure proper storage, handling, restoration and preservation of objects in the collection.
Donor cultivation including providing guidance to private collectors, and shepherding relationships between them and the museum.
Job Requirements
Master’s degree required; PhD preferred. Field of expertise should be Contemporary art (1960s – present) with proven experience working with living artists. Previous museum experience is required and a demonstrated commitment to scholarship through research and record of publication. Proficiency in one or more foreign languages appropriate to field of scholarship desired; fluency preferred.
