The Artful Healing Program is a unique opportunity for art educators who are interested in the application of the arts in the community, and encouraging participants of all ages in healthcare settings to engage with the diversity of the MFA encyclopedic collection.

Under the direction of the Manager of Community Arts and the Artful Healing Coordinator, the Artful Healing instructor teaches in various Artful Healing programs taking place mainly off-site at neighborhood health centers and hospitals, including: Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute and MGH. Essential functions include: teach Artful Healing programs off-site at health care facilities (Artful Healing sessions include a presentation of the MFA collection with participants in group setting or by bedside followed by a related hands-on art activity); plan visits and curriculum with staff members at healthcare partners; attend meetings, trainings, and workshops as requested; prepare reports for each site visit as required.

8 hours/week average, with the potential to work up to 16 hours/week. Varied schedule, with most groups taking place between 10am-6pm, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required (recent graduates or graduate students from Lesley, Emmanuel, or other schools offering strong arts, education, psychology, art therapy programs, etc. would be ideal candidates); strong organizational and communications skills, the ability to work as part of a team, and an aptitude for working in a variety of environments; must possess knowledge and skills necessary to interact compassionately and appropriately with patients and their families on a regular basis; experience teaching or leading group activities in community centers, mental health facilities, or special needs classrooms preferred.
