Nestled in the heart of UCLA’s beautiful north campus, the Fowler enhances understanding and appreciation of the diverse peoples, cultures, and religions of the world through acclaimed exhibitions, public programs, and publications.
Under the supervision of the Museum’s Director, the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Engagement represents the Museum and its programs to the media and the public, is responsible for overseeing the Curator of adult public programs, and is responsible for developing methods to further engage audiences. Major responsibilities are to plan, develop, and implement all public relations objectives; oversee all communications with media, community groups, and university agencies; and direct, write, and budget all marketing efforts and publicity materials. The Curator of Public Programs directly reports to the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Engagement.
The incumbent works with a high degree of independence under the general supervision of the Museum’s Director and is a member of the Museum’s senior staff.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 2- 3 years of experience working in communications for a museum or cultural organization.

Graduate degree in English, art history, journalism, marketing, communications, or a related field.

Demonstrated experience in writing news releases and other information for the news media.

Ability to give dynamic public introductions to public programs and to make presentations about the Museum to large and small groups.

Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, diplomacy, and community relations skills to work effectively with a wide variety of media representatives, curators, artists, students, university, and community contacts.

Knowledge of global arts and arts practices and sensitivity to issues related to representing other cultures.

Experience working with contemporary artists.

Flexibility and adaptability; ability to organize, effectively prioritize and complete a variety of tasks in a timely manner, despite deadlines and competing requests.

Demonstrated working knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations and
communications.

Working knowledge and experience with social networking platforms: e.g. Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and ability to maintain regular communication via social media, including understanding proper messaging formats techniques and strategies unique to each social media platform.

Excellent administrative skills required, including the ability to develop and maintain a marketing budget.

Knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style, and grammar, punctuation, spelling, and style guidelines.

Skill in developing and implementing complex communications, public relations, and marketing programs.

Demonstrated working knowledge of the operation of the print and broadcast media.

Ability to supervise full and part-time staff including interviewing, selecting, and training staff; reviewing assignments; providing feedback; setting priorities; evaluating performance; and inspiring creativity.

Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.

Demonstrated proficiency and capabilities with personal computers and software, and the Web Working knowledge of standard computer office applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint or other productivity software.

This is a 75% time non-exempt position with an anticipated annual salary of $45,400 – $58,500.
