The EcoTarium, New England’s leading Science and Nature Center, is seeking a part-time Guest Services Associates for weekdays, weekends and occasional evenings. The Sales and Guest Services Associate is the primary contact for all visitors to the museum and is the public face of the EcoTarium. The Guest Service Associate will handle admissions, orient visitors to the property, inform them of activities and available programs, sell memberships, programs, museum shop merchandising and sales, take reservations for field trips, camp, and birthday parties either over the phone or in person, input the data into the computer database, and host birthday parties. Exceptional communication, customer-service skills, retail experience and attention to detail and dependability are essential to this position.
Qualifications:
- High school degree or equivalent required. College degree is a plus.
- Knowledge of good customer service principles, including the ability to listen and understand the needs of guests as well as customer service experience both face to face and by telephone
- Strong verbal and written skills with proven ability to interact with the public—from adult to children of all ages
- Ability to inspire a passion for science and nature
- Articulate and mature demeanor
- Ability to multi-task, be detail oriented, and possess excellent organizational skills
- High level of computer skills and cash drawer management
- Prior Call Center and/or knowledge of a reservations system is a plus
- Prior retail experience helpful
- Must be flexible in their work hours, able to work weekdays, weekends, and occasional evening, and be highly dependable
- Able to walk, stand and work in highly sensory and stimulating work environment, constantly interacting with guests
- Must be in good physical condition to meet the physical demands of the position. Ability to move program equipment/supplies/merchandise up to 50 lbs and climb step ladders and navigate trails and work outside under any conditions
- Experience working with diverse racial/socioeconomic populations
- Must pass CORI background check according to EcoTarium’s guidelines
- Provide an exceptional guest experience by being pro-active in welcoming and offering assistance to everyone that enters the museum
- Offer polite and friendly assistance to all callers
- Take reservations in person and/or over the phone, and enter the data into our computer reservation database
- Market and sell admissions, programs, memberships, and shop merchandise both in person and by telephone
- Operate VISTA cash and reservation systems, as well as a QuickBooks POS system
- Reconcile daily deposits and cash control records, and run daily reports
- Make public address announcements
- Process arrival details of incoming groups
- Keep a clean work area at the gate house, information/museum shop desk and within the museum shop
- Work to ensure guest satisfaction, notifying appropriate personnel about challenges and successes
- Effectively communicate with guests as well as your peers
- Take initiative in problem solving and fostering effective interaction
- Check in, price and re-stock museum shop merchandise; monitor inventory levels and communicate re-order points
- Update stanchions and other signage
- Maintain files and place service calls for vending machines
- Serve as the point of contact for inquiries and emergencies
- Handle restocking of maps, tickets, forms, supplies and program inventory, and alert the Team Leader when supplies need to be re-ordered
- Prepare, set-up, clean-up, and maintain program materials
- Lead birthday parties and special events as needed on a variety of science and nature topics
- Work with team to enhance curriculum with creative ideas and activities
- Employ inquiry-based teaching methods to stimulate learning
- Assist other departments as may be needed from time to time
- Uniform/dress code required
