Director of Development

MASS MoCA seeks an energetic, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and persuasively persistent person with 5 to 8 years of development experience. We are looking for a colleague who can think, write, and speak with clarity, passion, and wit. The successful candidate must have the capacity and networking resources to work with the museum’s Director and curators to identify, structure, write, and win large, innovative, multi-year grants, as well as major gifts and sponsorships.
Reporting to the Director and the Board of Trustees, the Director of Development will:§ Manage the Development Department, setting annual revenue goals, evaluating Development staff, and, in general, participating in the institution’s leadership circle§ Serve as a key staff contact for Trustees, former Trustees, Director’s Advisory Council members, and other high-level donors, prospects, and partners§ Work directly with Trustees and Director while managing the Confluence Campaign ($17 million to raise) and major gift solicitation strategies, including coordination of cultivation events, presentation materials, prospect pipeline, and volunteers§ Work collaboratively with the program team to conceive, write, and win grants§ Report regularly to the Director on revenue progress, projections, and strategies, as well as campaign activities and briefs on next steps§ Report quarterly to the Board of Trustees and bi-quarterly to board subcommittees§ Manage a portfolio of 40-50 campaign prospects§ Work closely with the Director of Communications on all development-related communications strategies

Qualifications:

Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills are essential. Experience with volunteer management preferred. Bachelor’s degree required. This is a full-time, benefits- eligible position.
