The Museum of International Folk Art located on Museum Hill in Santa Fe, New Mexico, announces its search for a dynamic leader to administer all aspects of the Museum’s operations.  The Museum is accredited by AAM and is a collections-based institution with 30 employees, an annual budget in excess of $2.5 million, and nearly 100,000 visitors per year.

The Museum is a Division of the State of New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs and enjoys partnerships with several non-governmental organizations that exist to provide support for the Museum.  These include the Museum of New Mexico Foundation and the International Folk Art Foundation.  Additionally, 2016 will be the 13th year of an important partnership with the Santa Fe International Folk Art Market.

This is an exempt position within the State of New Mexico personnel system and reports directly to the Secretary of the Department of Cultural Affairs and the board of Regents of the Museum of New Mexico.

The Director should have a demonstrated ability in the administration of a complex organization with multiple partnerships and an ability to work with volunteers, patrons, and support groups.  In addition, the aforementioned foundations each have their own governing boards and the Director is expected to interact effectively with them assisting in and initiating fundraising efforts, including capital campaigns.  Significant experience in a senior museum management position is required as is an appropriate educational background such as an advanced degree in art history, folklore, anthropology, or related field.  Ph.D. is desirable.
