Description
Reporting to the Curator of Education, the full-time Assistant Curator of Education helps coordinate and present educational programs of the institution. He or she works with children, teachers, docents, families, students, volunteers, and the general public, and assists with the development, delivery, and evaluation of programs that relate both to special exhibitions and to the museum’s permanent collection. Responsibilities and duties of the position include:
- Assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of educational initiatives and programs, responsive to current thinking in the fields of museum education, education theory, and informal learning.
- Developing content for K-12 programs, including school tours, teacher programs, and school outreach programs.
- Overseeing the planning, execution, and evaluation of the museum’s summer camps and family programs.
- Designing self-guided tour materials for students and families.
- Assisting with training and ongoing professional development of docents, including maintaining docent correspondence.
- Coordinating group tour schedules.
- Conducting museum tours for audiences of all ages.
- Overseeing the museum’s internship program.
- Monitoring and maintaining department’s art supplies.
- Supporting the communications department with distributing of marketing materials for education programs and maintenance of education mailing lists.
- Supporting the development department by supplying information needed for funding applications and reports.
- Attending evening and weekend educational programs when necessary.
- Attending other museum functions as needed.
Requirements
Requirements for the position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in studio art, art education, museum education, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working with K-12 students in formal and informal learning environments.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact successfully with diverse audiences and museum stakeholders.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
