The Position

The Marketing Editorial Manager is the voice of the Jewish Museum brand. This role requires creativity and strategy to craft and execute messaging that reflect both historic Jewish identity and contemporary culture. The Manager will generate marketing, advertising and promotional collateral, digital communications and related projects. Core deliverables include exhibition titles, taglines, advertising and promotion, Member communications, website content, email marketing, social media, and assistance with Development and institutional communications needs.

An entrepreneurial approach is a necessity to differentiate our museum and programs from their competition. Candidates must have a strong grasp of benefit and audience-focused writing techniques and the ability to craft simple, impactful headlines and supporting copy. The Marketing Editorial Manager must possess a strong ability to copy edit and be an excellent proofreader—all public Museum language will terminate with them.

Many of the positions’ duties cross multiple museum departments and divisions as internal clients, though they are a key member of the Marketing and Communications department. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Marketing and Communications, the position serves alongside Digital marketing and the Design Studio.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

This position reports to the Deputy Director, Marketing and Communications Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Generate high-level messaging and creative concepts for a variety of campaigns, building on brand awareness as well as specific products (exhibitions/programs).
  • Develop brand voice and messaging.
  • Create smart, concise copywriting that ignites an emotional response and moves your audience to visit the museum.
  • Collaborate with the Curatorial department and the Office of the Director on exhibition naming, taglines and core messaging.
  • Extend concepts into messaging and copy with internal clients (Development, Membership and institutional Communications departments). These deliverables are intended for multiplatform executions, including web copy, email, digital and print ads, event collateral, and social media marketing.
  • Facilitate a smooth and effective work-flow with the Creative Studio and the Digital team to produce cohesive, impactful, message-driven products.
  • Serve as staff advisor to the Jewish Museum’s voice, including adherence to an institutional style guide and quality standards.
  • Develop and adhere to production and advertising schedules and deadlines.
  • Persuasively present ideas to internal clients.
  • Demonstrate a passion for creative thinking and apply best practices in brand positioning, differentiation, and communications.
  • Maintain an awareness of cutting-edge writing, advertising and marketing.
  • Take primary responsibility for proofreading and quality assurance of all written deliverables.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS

  • BA/BS required, (concentration in Art History, Journalism, Communications, Advertising, Publishing or Marketing preferred). Relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience producing a portfolio of strategically sound and impactful creative.
  • Flawless command of written language and a proofreader’s attention to detail.
  • Strong strategic and conceptual skills with a creative and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Knowledge of digital and traditional media.
  • Ability to maintain and meet client deadlines across multiple projects.
  • Interpersonal skills, presence and experience, with the ability to engender trust and confidence with internal clients. Ability to negotiate successfully and resolve differences, as well as demonstrate flexibility in responding to both internal client and Museum constituent needs.
  • Basic knowledge of art history from ancient to contemporary.
  • Knowledge and interest in Jewish culture preferred.
  • Outstanding computer skills including Microsoft Office software suite.
