Job Title: Coordinator of Museum Education

Reports to: Director of Education
Old Sturbridge Village seeks a creative, forward thinking, and highly motivated museum educator to
serve in a new position as Coordinator of Education. Under the general supervision of the Director of
Education, the Coordinator of Education will assist in daily maintenance and operation of the current
Museum Education programs, take a front line management role in the Discovery Adventures and Hop
Into History Overnight programs, and be an essential part of the redesign of the school program
experience. This is a unique opportunity to join New England’s largest living history museum during a
time of transition as we reimagine our offerings and launch new initiatives.
This position is Full Time, Salaried, Exempt and Benefit Eligible. At times, weekday evening and weekend
hours are required to fulfill program needs.
Qualifications:
– 2-5 years working with children in a museum, school, camp, or childcare environment
– Bachelor’s degree in history, art history, education, museum studies, or a related field
– Experience designing and implementing programs for public audiences
– Must be organized as well as flexible, and able to be self-directed in prioritizing tasks and work
– Must have excellent interpersonal skills, a sense of humor, and experience working on a team
– Must have a high threshold for kid-related chaos and the ability to role with the punches
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
– Oversee Discovery Adventures program (2 to 5 day intensive experiences during summer and
school vacation weeks) and Hop Into History Overnight program (an overnight experience for
40-85 participants). This position will be tasked with growing these two popular programs
including developing new content in partnership with interpretive staff, oversee teaching staff,
and working with marketing staff to promote programs.
– Mentor paid staff and volunteers as well as providing content training and input into staff
reviews.
– Understand, identify and appropriately respond to the multiple learning styles of a diverse
audience that includes students, families, and other life-long learners. Actively engage these
audiences using a range of interpretation techniques.
– Teach museum education programs as needed.
– Work evening programs such as Dinner in a Country Village, Christmas by Candlelight,
Hearthside Bounty, Evening of Illumination, sleep-overs or other evening shifts as required.
