Description

Researches and develops temporary exhibitions of emerging and acclaimed artists that address critical cultural and global issues.  Assists in researching and identifying traveling exhibitions that can be contracted for the USF Contemporary Art Museum (USFCAM).  Also serves as Director of Art in Health Program.  Writes, edits and assists in the production of Museum publications.  Works with Director, Deputy Director and other curators to engage affiliate groups, including the IRA Community Advisory Board, and the Faculty Advisory Committee.  Serves as liaison and cultivates relationships with faculty in the School of Art and Art History and in other departments across campus to better utilize Museum’s temporary exhibitions and collections for research and teaching. Develops interpretive materials, brochures, handouts for students and/or for distribution on website and other social networking vehicles.  Identifies, evaluates and pursues government and private foundation grant sources to support exhibitions, education programs and publications.  Assists Director with cultivation of individual donors and collectors.  Directly reports to the Director the Institute for Research in Art.  Works closely with Deputy Director and other curators for planning and implementation of projects.

Requirements

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Master’s degree from an accredited institution with demonstrated record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications in the field of specialization above those which would be equivalent to the highest degree.Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Research Associate.

Master’s degree in art history, art studio practice or museum studies from an accredited institution with demonstrated record of academic research achievement, or professional qualifications in the field of contemporary art which would be equivalent to the highest degree.  Minimum of three years of professional experience.

PREFERRED:

Excellent oral and written communication skills including social media strategies; publications record.  Strong organization skills and attention to detail, deadlines and follow through. The desire and ability to work in a collaborative environment with artists, faculty, staff and students; and demonstration of a professional network of artists, scholars, curators, collectors, gallerists and educators. Innovative curatorial approaches to integration of the arts with other disciplines including health, social practices, and the sciences.
