The Old North Foundation is searching for talented individuals to fill numerous part time seasonal positions. The individuals we seek will act as ambassadors of the Old North Historic Site. If you are interested in a job that allows you to interact with people from all over the world and share your knowledge of Boston, the Old North Church, and its place in American history, we want to meet you! The positions are outlined below. All positions typically run from April 1 – October 31 with some possibility of continued part time employment through the winter. It is essential that you are available weekends and holidays for the duration of the season.

Qualifications:

Church Educators

As the public faces of the Old North, church educators must be friendly, outgoing, and engaging to our visitors (approximately 500,000 annually), ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone. This position is perfect for those who love to share their passion for history with others and facilitate meaning-making for visitors in a historic site.
Responsibilities

· Welcoming and providing excellent customer service to all visitors

· Leading brief presentations on the history of the church to groups as large     as 200 people and as small as 10

· Facilitating thirty minute tours and additional educational programs

· Engaging various audiences (such as families and K-12 groups) with the history of Old North Church

· Providing information on the North End neighborhood and the city of Boston

· Opening and closing the church campus; keeping the church building  clean

· Encouraging visitors to donate upon entrance and visit the gift shop upon exit
Qualifications

· Excellent public speaking skills and a friendly smile

· Mature and outgoing personality; must love talking with people!

· Interest in education, history, or museums

· Outstanding customer service skills

· Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and manage several tasks simultaneously

· Reliability and professional appearance
This position requires climbing steep stairs, navigating narrow passageways and working in indoor and outdoor New England weather conditions. Previous education, theater, and customer service experience a plus!
Clough House Interpreters
As the public faces of the Clough House, Interpreters will be trained in both The Printing Office Of Edes and Gill and Captain Jackson’s Historic Chocolate shop, educating our visitors on the history of chocolate and colonial printing. Interpreters, wearing period appropriate clothing (provided), will conduct printing demonstrations on an English letterpress and chocolate demonstrations with tools and materials found in the 18th century. Each of these living history programs contains an essential retail component for which Interpreters are also responsible.
Responsibilities

· Welcoming all visitors upon entrance

· Providing informative, interesting presentations on chocolate and printing

· Soliciting voluntary donations

· Cleaning all equipment and the shops

· Restocking, folding, and presenting the merchandise

· Cashiering

· Provide way finding information and general information about the campus and the surrounding neighborhood

· Wearing period clothing (provided). This is not first-person interpretation.
Qualifications

· Excellent public speaking skills

· Interest in history and education

· Outgoing and engaging personality

· Cash handling experience

· Ability to work in a fast paced environment

· Able to stand for long periods of time
Gift Shop Retail Associates

The Old North Gift Shop is a 1,200 square foot shop with a large selection of gifts, souvenirs, clothing, and books. Gift Shop sales support the Old North Foundation. The Gift Shop staff are important members of the Old North Team, not only providing retail support but also acting as “information ambassadors” to our many visitors.
Responsibilities

· Cashiering – Harbortouch POS

· Stocking, folding, and cleaning the shop

· Providing excellent customer service

· Exhibiting outstanding product knowledge

· Tagging and receiving of merchandise
Qualifications

· Cash handling experience

· POS experience a plus

· Knowledge of Boston and the surrounding neighborhood

· Outgoing personality, friendly smile
