JOB PURPOSE:

The Coordinator of Academic Engagement supports university-level visits to engage with the collections of the Cantor Arts Center by coordinating and monitoring class visits to the galleries, the Tanenbaum study room, and the Wilsey classroom. Serving as the primary liaison to the academic community, the Coordinator actively encourages class visits through campus outreach, provides collections database research support for faculty and students, facilitates class visits, and assists with the installation of artworks in classrooms. Art handling and some database work also required.

The Coordinator reports to the Associate Director for Academic and Public Engagement and participates in the Education department while maintaining close partnerships with the division of Exhibitions, Collections, and Curatorial Affairs.
This position will oversee and ensure appropriate care of collections. Participate in the acquisition, conservation, exhibition, education and publication programs for the Museum. An advanced degree is preferred and art historical knowledge of one or more of the Cantor’s collection areas is highly desirable.


CORE DUTIES*:

  • Assist in all aspects of the development of classroom installations;
  • Research collection records. Write research materials.
  • Oversee collaborative projects with faculty and staff.
  • Collaborate with curators and Director on special projects.
  • Participate in teaching courses at the Museum.
  • Mentor student interns.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of three years of related experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism to interact with a wide range of people at different levels of an organization.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively and efficiently manage multiple priorities, with competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite and database management applications.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Highly specialized knowledge in a specific area of visual arts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

  • Frequently perform desk based computer tasks, seated work and use light/ fine grasping.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and write by hand, lift, carry, push pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May work extended or non-standard hours, weekends and holidays based on business needs.
