The Monterey Museum of Art is in search of an Assistant Curator. This position is responsible for a variety of curatorial activities including collection and exhibition research, planning, scholarship, and implementation. Primary responsibilities include care and maintenance of the permanent collection and artworks on loan, storage, and associated files, such as exhibition checklists, image files, funder credit lines, and lenders. The Assistant Curator will have the opportunity to conceptualize and curate original Museum exhibitions or collection projects with a focus on audience engagement.
• Master’s degree (required) and/or Ph.D. in Art History, Museum Studies, or related Museum discipline
• At least three years of experience in the Curatorial field or related experience
• A general knowledge in early California painting, photography, and modern to contemporary art; with a specialization in one of these areas.
