Description
Has secondary responsibility for the archives under the supervision of the Chief Archivist. This primarily includes collection management and reference service. Processing new collections and writing findings aids are major components of the job. Independently provides quality control for cataloguing and scanning projects. Provides for the efficient operation and coordination of large and complex database management processes.
Requirements
MAJOR RESPONSBILITES
- Appraise, accession and catalog new collections.
- Process and write finding aids for collections.
- Catalog transferred AFIP material and provides reference assistance to AFIP departments.
- Maintain shelf list: coordinate storage of collections at various locations at the museum and warehouse.
- Preserve and conserve collection materials.
- Work with visiting researchers.
- Process written and telephone research requests.
- Provide research support for exhibits and other Museum divisions.
- Supervise volunteers and interns.
- Serve on relevant Museum committees.
- Participate in exhibit process.
- Contribute to other Museum functions and projects as needed.
MAJOR QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: M.A. in American History or Library Science
- Experience: several years of professional work experience preferably in a federal government or medical archives and/or museum. Demonstrated responsibility for historically and monetarily valuable collections as needed.
