The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (“DCPA”) is the largest non-profit theater organization in the nation, presenting Broadway tours and producing its own theatre, cabaret, musicals, and innovative, multi-media plays. The DCPA’s mission as a performing arts organization is to create unforgettable shared experiences by engaging audiences through the art of theatre, by empowering our passionate team and by sharing stories in landmark theatres. The DCPA is a community-leading performing arts beacon and is composed of the following divisions: Broadway, Theatre Company, Cabaret, Education and Event Services.
Responsibilities
The VP of Development, with the support of an eight-member development team, will be responsible for planning, implementing, and managing all fundraising activities in order to achieve the budgeted annual contributed income goal which is currently $5 million. S/he will provide leadership and strategic direction to maintain and expand support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and government sources. The VP of Development reports to the CEO but will also have significant direct interaction with the Board of Trustees and the Board Development Committee.
Education and Experience
The DCPA seeks a skilled, energetic and mission-focused executive to serve as Vice President of Development and who will cultivate and build relationships with the Denver philanthropic community to assist the DCPA in continuing to be the most dynamic theatre organization in the nation. This position will establish relationships with prospective donors and be the fundraising “face” of the institution in tandem with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chairman of the Board. A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred. Substantial (ideally 8 or more years) of progressively responsible nonprofit development experience, including at least two years working with funders on proposals in excess of $100,000. Current or recent experience in a Vice President or Associate Vice President of Development role is preferred. Demonstrated expertise in crafting and successfully executing comprehensive strategic development programs to include individual giving, planned giving, corporate donations, foundation and government grants. A track record of success in engaging and educating Board Members and their Development Committee in creating a highly effective culture of philanthropy. Knowledge of the Denver fundraising community, including individual, corporate, foundation and government sources, is highly preferred.
