We are looking for a dynamic and forward thinking Registrar to join our team at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA), a division of Scottsdale Arts, a leading nonprofit arts organization in the Southwest. Seeking to build and educate audiences for modern and contemporary art and provide opportunities for our community, SMoCA provides a memorable artistic and creative experiences by exploring new curatorial approaches to art, architectural and design practices and highlighting the cultural contexts that drive them. Our Registrar is an integral part of our institutional strategy, planning processes and success.

Duties include:

  • Responsible for the oversight of the museum’s collection and acquisition process.
  • Oversees the conservation activities for the collection.
  • Recommends, develops and implements collection policies and related procedures.
  • Maintains and supervises vaults, location records and off site storage.
  • Maintains appropriate database of collection and updates as needed.
  • Works closely with the director, curatorial and installation staff on exhibitions including planning, outreach, negotiation of insurance, all aspects of shipping and transit, receipt of items and installation/ desinstallation and dispersal.
  • Ensures compliance with laws and regulations pertaining to loans and collection activities.
  • Upholds standards of registrar activities as defined by the American Association of Museums.
  • Lead a long-term process to get SMoCA’s collection and its information on-line for the general public.

This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree (Master preferred) in Art History Museum Studies or related field, along with minimum 5 years’ experience in similar position. The ability to work flexible hours is required.
